Introduction

Great night of wines and the first go around was blind. The wines showed well and wine of the night by a point was the Rubicon. Great Minneapolis Wine Club Event!!!

Flight 1 (7 Notes)

  • 2007 Ridge Chardonnay Santa Cruz Mountains 92 Points

    USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains

Drinking well again with chalk, oak, orange peel, lemon and carmel. Complex wine and really at its peak in my opinion.

  • 1990 Château Pape Clément 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

A minor flaw with the wine but drinkable. Nose of cassis, cigar box, earth and bell pepper. Good concentration and medium finish. Too bad it was a little off as I am sure it would have scored better.

  • 2003 Joseph Phelps Insignia 94 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Nice showing. Dark in color. Big fruit on the nose along with herbs, olives, spice and cranberry. On the palate it picks up a little heat which blew off quick. Good concentration and medium finish. Decanted around 4 hours and needed all of that.

  • 2004 Blankiet Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Paradise Hills Vineyard 92 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

A little disappointed with this wine based on the big scores. Decanted 3 hours and the wine showed some fruit but featured more spice, floral and licorice. Medium finish and good acidity. Medium finish. I would cellar this wine for at least five years to see if it evolves into a better wine.

  • 2004 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select 95 Points

USA, California, Napa Valley, Stags Leap District

BIG wine! Dark purple. Nose of bing cherries, smoke, oak, vanilla beans and blueberries. The mouthfeel is thick and concentrated. Lots of spice on the palate and medium to long finish. This is a really young wine at this stage but very drinkable. Decanted 2 plus hours. Should age for 20 years. My wine of the night. 95+

  • 2007 Rubicon Estate Rubicon 94 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford

I have always sampled this wine at trade shows and I have never loved the wine but this is not to be consumed out of the bottle. Decanted 4 plus hours and showing really well! The most balanced wine of the night with Bordeaux character. Spice, gravel, cassis and earth come together to create a really elegant wine. Medium to long finish and balanced. I would say drink now but it will improve with some cellaring. 94-96 points.

  • 1997 Ridge Monte Bello 94 Points

    USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains

Wow! This is drinking well with black cherry, licorice, subtle spices and minerals. Acidity level is perfect and a complex finish. This wine should age another decade.
