  • 2010 Gaia Assyrtiko Wild Ferment

  • 2010 Argyros Aidani

Tart fruit, slight green apple and sweet spice over flinty minerality. In the mouth it's all about apple and spice. The texture is mouth coating the acidity licks gently at the palate. Nice.

  • 2010 Argyros Assyrtiko

    Greece, Aegean, Cyclades, Santorini

tart fruit, slight apple and spice then comes over all rich and creamy with hints of white pepper finishing with minerality.
In the mouth it's all about the feel, rich and unctuous without being cloying. I get orchard fruit hiding under spice, including clove. Lovely.

Closing

My first exposure to Greek wine. The whites were interesting with their rich mouthfeel and the reds, I'm ashamed to say, put me in mind of Southern Italian quaffers. That is not to say I did not enjoy them and, given the opportunity, I would probably get a few for the cellar.
The whole event was well organised and I tried about 30% of the wines on show. I would have tried more if I'd be there on time and my lunch guest had not arrived so early!
