Le Cadeau and Aubichon Tasting

Tom Mortimer came to town last month and brought his whole lineup of wines to Otis' house for a gathering of some forumites. I didn't get to try them all but did take notes on quite a few. It was good to see Tom again, catch up with him and talk to him about his wines. Here are my notes:

• 2008 Aubichon Pinot Noir Reserve 92 Points

  USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

  Very different style than the wines Tom makes at Le Cadeau. Richer and more of a California style. Filled with red fruit. Creamy texture. Full bodied. 92 points.

• 2009 Aubichon Pinot Noir Reserve 90 Points

  USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

  I liked the 2008 better although it was the same richer style of Pinot. Sweet fruit with notes of vanilla and currants. Showed a little alcohol at present. 90 points.

• 2008 Le Cadeau Pinot Noir Diversite 87 Points

  First time I had the 2008. This bottle was a little funky to me and the fruit was not as focused as past Diversite's. I liked the 2004 (93), 2005 (89), 2006 (90), 2007 (90) and 2009 (90) better. 87 points.

• 2009 Le Cadeau Pinot Noir Merci 89 Points

  I believe 2009 was the first year Cadeau made a Merci bottling. Earthy with the typical fine minerality that is almost always present in the Pinots from this estate. 89 points

  Liked this better than the 2008 which was also at this tasting. Good minerality with black fruit notes. Creamy finish. 90 points.

• 2009 Le Cadeau Pinot Noir Côte Est 90 Points

  I always considered the Cote Est bottling from Le Cadeau to be slightly lighter in style than the rest of his Pinot's. However, this 2009 was concentrated and heavy. Loaded with rich black fruit which filled and coated your mouth. 90-91 points.

  My favorite of the 5 2009 Cadeau Pinots that I tried at this event. Notes of black cherry, cassis and charcoal. Firm tannins. Full bodied. 92 points.
