Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 1996 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

I pulled the cork about 1 hour before dinner and then poured into decanter at the restaurant and consumed over 3 hours. Flowery and musky on the nose. Lovely bright yellow color which bore no sign of its age. Great balance between acidity and minerality and the leflaive class was definitely present. Just lacked that depth and weight to be truly outstanding. A 96 white burg so young and fresh! I need to control myself and let this batch of 96 Leflaives sleep.

  • 1986 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Bonnes Mares 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru

While it still reflected the hardness of the vintage i thought this bottle was in a great place with a really nice nose, sweet pruney fruit and lots of iron. Not particularly long or deep to be profound and finished with dusty tannins. held up well over 2 hours. given what people say about vogue's wines in the late 70s and 80s i thought this was a pleasant surprise.

  • 1996 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Richebourg 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru

Lot's a dark berry fruit, cola and plenty of minerality and dry extract. A bit of earth and spice lurking. Elegant and well balanced. Not particularly big or long but very classy. I liked this a little more than the 86 Vogue BM we had side by side. One of the more accessible 96s I've had but still plenty of years left. Recommend 2 hour decant.
