Introduction

This was an Association of Italian Sommeliers degustazione. I am transcribing in English from my sketchy and incomplete notes in Italian.

  • 1999 Coppo Barbera d'Asti Pomorosso

    Italy, Piedmont, Asti, Barbera d'Asti

    AIS tasting; transcribing early tasting notes.
    Deep, dark colour. Fruity nose. Fruits and hazelnuts on the palate, full body, everything in balance. Great wine.

  • 1999 Hastae Barbera d'Asti Quorum

    Italy, Piedmont, Asti, Barbera d'Asti

    AIS tasting; transcribing early tasting notes.
    Newly bottled; needs time. Short and simple, no length or complexity. The 1999 Pomorosso was much better, at least young. Wonder how they'll age?

  • 1999 La Spinetta (Rivetti) Barbera d'Asti Superiore Bionzo

    Italy, Piedmont, Asti, Barbera d'Asti Superiore

    AIS tasting. Transcribing early tasting notes.
    Nose: closed. Palate: fully, weighty, fruity and oaky. Far too young, but should be great in a few years.

  • 1998 Gaja Langhe Sitorey

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC

    AIS tasting. Transcribing early tasting notes.
    Moderately intense and persistent. Chocolate, toasted nuts, minerality. Very acidic. Don't like it, but predict a good future.

This tasting confirms that I am still not fond of Barbera.
