Introduction

Wonderful event with the main event being the Salmon Steve and Gail caught on their trip to Alaska. The wines from Siduri and Loring were nice overall and I like their price points. My wine fo the night was the Merry Edwards Meredith and the Sonoma Coast Vineyards made a terrible wine!

Flight 1 (8 Notes)

  • 2007 Louis Latour Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru 86 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

A very light wine with shells, mineral and a touch of lemon. Short to medium finish and not real interesting stuff. I would rather drink the base bottling from Fevre.

  • 2009 Siduri Pinot Noir Russian River Valley 90 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

This wine out of the bottle would have scored an 87 but with some time it really opened up. Raspberry, spice, cherry and earth. The wine was a bit bitter but with some swirling it balanced itself out. I do see this wine improving with age so if you drink now decant for a few hours.

  • 2007 Siduri Pinot Noir Pisoni Vineyard 91 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands

More complex wine than the Russian River base bottle. Spice, floral, cherry and strawberry. Medium finish and plenty of flavors there including some nice wood quality. Decanted for about 20 minutes and should drink well for five plus years.

  • 2007 Siduri Pinot Noir Rosella's Vineyard 92 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands

Very nice wine wiht raspberry, spice, minerals and forest floor. The palate offers ripe fruit and a nice balance of earthy flavors. Good structured wine and medium finish. This is a cellar selection. Decanted 30 minutes.
    92-94.

  • 2009 Loring Wine Company Pinot Noir Rosella's Vineyard 92 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands

Groups second favorite wine of the night. Good balance with red raspberries, strawberries, dust and minerals. Nice use of oak and medium finish. Decanted 20 minutes.

  • 2009 Loring Wine Company Pinot Noir Clos Pepe Vineyard 89 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills

This wine needs some time and currently it is in the 88-90 camp. While I don't see this ever reaching major improvement it does offer more dark fruits than the Rosella's along with floral, spice and oak. Medium finish and decanted 20 minutes.

  • 2008 Sonoma Coast Vineyards Pinot Noir Freestone Hills 85 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

A WE 94. Really??? This wine had almost no personality. Bitter along with floral and soft fruits. Short to medium finish and not one person liked it.

  • 2008 Merry Edwards Pinot Noir Meredith Estate 93 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

This is my favorite 08 wine from Merry Edwards. Wonderful balance and very Burg like with raspberry, earth, floral and subtle spices. Medium finish and smooth. This wine can be enjoyed now but I see it aging nicely for five years. Decanted 20 minutes.
