Flight 1 - Flight 1 - 1st set of red burg (3 Notes)

  • 2006 Sylvie Esmonin (Michel et Fille) Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques 88 Points

    Opened for 6hrs. This show another face of Clos St.Jacques, so feminine. The complex aromas gently soared from the glass with sweet dark fruits, brown sugar intermixed beautifully with smoke meat, wood spice and wrapped up with mineral, a true Gevrey here. This is not showy wine for sure as the palate was kinda discreet and shy. Not really complex in flavors but this has the depth of a very god 1er Cru. The medium level tannin is a bit dry but very fine, and this does has sufficient concentration of fruits and dry extract for the right balance. Very generous amount of mineral flow through the palate with dried tea leave, dark cherry with slight drying finish that is medium length and spicy infused. While this is not in the same level of Rousseau / Fourrier, this does offer a taste of this plot with much lower cost.

  • 2008 Domaine Rossignol Trapet Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes 88 Points

    Opened for 3.5hrs. Vibrant medium ruby with pinkish hue. Contrast to the Esmonin CSJ, this only display faint hint of meatiness and with more floral scents. Very aromatic, some even guessed this was a Chambolle! Soft and gentle with aromas of red cherry, mint, wood spices and traces of brown sugar and herbal. Lot of generous sweet dark and red fruits on the palate with touch of earth, very good sappiness and pure. Very fresh too, thanks to the bright acid from 2008 vintage. Beautifully structured and the fine tannin is well integrated already for such young wine. Medium length, juicy finish with touch of spices. Very good, high QPR.

  • 2004 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée Clos du Château 86 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

    Slightly milk light ruby with brown hue. Quite matured and aged, with autumn leaves, mineral with sweet red cherry core. Still bright and rich with touch of herbaceous up front and the sweetness from the red fruits kick in for better mouth feel and balance. Quite lush but also quite straight forward. Medium length, juicy finish with autumn tea leave aftertaste. Very good for a village.

Flight 2 - Flight 2 - 2nd set of red burg (2 Notes)

  • 2008 Sylvain Cathiard Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts 91 Points

    Wow, this is very floral and aromatic. The complex aromas display layers of red floral scents, spices, autumn leave that sailed alongside with sweet cherry cola and mineral. This become more seductive with time as the aromas is getting sweeter and rounder but still remain focus and precise. I really like the grace and harmonious on the palate, the overall balance and integration is fabulous. Such seductive sweetness on the palate but again, with the bright acid to go along with it for the lift and freshness. This lush juice immediately fill up the mouth with lovely concentration of fruits, loads of mineral and inner perfume that move on to the complex, detail, juicy finish that's very pure and vibrant. Excellent now and will only get better and better. 91-92+

  • 2005 Joseph Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru 90 Points

    Decanted for 2hrs: This vibrant ruby juice still rather shy and tight. Double decanted into the bottle for another 1.5hrs and we're please with this decision. The wine has finally opened up and show the charm of a Chambolle Musigny. The sour cherry aromas evolved into very sweet red cherry and blueberry in the core with spices, fresh forest floor, liquid mineral that surrounded it along with blue floral scents that is truly attractive. While this has very firm structured and power of 2005, this wine is dress in a highly polish texture that is round and fine. The low-medium level of very fine tannin lend a good grip on the palate together with dark berry fruits, autumn leaves that flow on smoothly to the creamy, sappy mineral infused medium length finish that's sweet and elegance with touch of caramel undertone. This is truly delicious. 90-92

Flight 3 - Flight 3 - White burg and Grower Champagnes (3 Notes)

  • 2004 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre 91 Points

    It is always a treat to have a Raveneau in the line up, while this is tight when opened, it is very fine and you know this going be great when giving it enough aeration. Indeed, this wine blossom from the glass after 4.5hrs with peaches, lime, citrus, floral, a dash of fresh honey and the tell-tale aromas of almond, mineral that exist in Raveneau's Chablis. Highly focus, refreshing and perfume, quote from my friend: I can't stop sniffing it! While this is not has the sheer complexity and depth of the 2000 Valmur, this does offer similar mouth feel that is lush, creamy and fine. Complex flavors of ripe peaches, lime, lemon, almond and mineral expand across the mouth with razor sharp focus and precision with very long finish that has excellent persistent and juiciness. Building up more weight too. Keep this for another 5yrs and it will be even more complete. Raveneau, the best in Chablis, to me. 91-93

  • NV Georges Laval Champagne Premier Cru Brut Nature Cumières 87 Points

    From 2006 fruits. Non-dosage. Popped and poured and this already very expressive on the nose with barley, malt, white floral scent and green apple with mineral in the background. Quite rich on the palate and a tad discreet. This is a mineral driven bubbly that is quite straight forward but beautifully focus with good mid palate sappiness that flow on to the medium length finish with green apple, star fruits flavors. Enjoyable.

  • NV Chartogne-Taillet Champagne Les Barres 90 Points

    Degorge: 04/2011. Non dosage, 100% Pinot Meunier.
    From 2006 fruits. Popped and poured into the decanter. Medium golden in color with very fine, consistent bubble. The aroma is sweet and round with a dash of honey to the very intense mineral core that dominated the aromatic profile along with ripe pear, green apple, almond powder and perfume floral. Compare to the Laval, this is more showy and fleshy with its intensely bold, sweet ripe fruits and creamy mouth feel that leads to the juicy finish that is a little bit sweet. This is a very good bubbly that is juicy and delicious for sure but I found it lacks a bit of definition and focus as the sweetness is on the high side with a loose acidic backbone, pure personal preference. However, the wine continue develop and get better focus as the sweetness has toned down in the glass with fresh, bright acid appear for the right balance. Very clean and fresh. The complex flavors of green apple, lime, orange and star fruits is mouth watering and continue to expand on the long finish with very clean mineral and citrus aftertaste. Very good!
