Last fall my friend Norberto, a big fan of Zins & Pinots, told me a story about a wine he really enjoyed at a dinner in Vegas with some colleagues. He couldn't recall the winery, but remembered something about a "chicken." I knew we had to visit Robert Biale on this trip.
We arrived to find bins of fermenting grapes throughout the parking lot. With all of the rain expected early in the week, Biale's crews had to beg, borrow and steal additional bins to haul in all of their grapes before the rains. It was slightly organized chaos, but everyone seemed to be having a lot of fun and the winemaker spent a few minutes with us talking about what we were watching and cracking a few jokes along the way. $20/person tasting fee.
