  • 2007 Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Riesling Kabinett #7 88 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

    Alcohol :: 8%
    Popped and poured and this already very promising with it's lovely aromas of ripe mango, peaches, lemon, salted plum with little touch of slate and kerosene, very focus and aromatic. This is obviously bless by 2007 vintage as this kabinett possess superb richness and intensity, more like a Spatlese. I really like the tension here, a bit showy and lots of sweet ripe yellow fruits around the palate but remain highly focus with razor sharp precision. So vibrant and juicy, the touch of kerosene and sweet lemon, creamy mouth feel was perfectly support by the ripe, mouth watering acidity that leads to the medium length, slight dry finish with mineral aftertaste. This goes really well with the hainanese chicken rice with chili sauce!

Flight 2 (3 Notes)

  • 1994 Château Gruaud Larose 86 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

    Alcohol :: 12.5%
    Vibrant garnet red. This has a matured bouquet but still fresh. Capsicum, blackcurrant, earth, coffee and light barnyard that added better complexity to it. I knocked this down as 93/94 St-Julien for the flavors and the palate is quite lean that giving away the vintage. However, despite this is quite lean on the palate, everything is well balance and drinking at the right time now. Plum, blackberry, coffee and leather with slight rustic tannin that leads to the slightly sweet, medium length finish that is powdery with bitter cocoa aftertaste. A decent drink but nothing much.

  • 1997 Château Talbot 87 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

    Alcohol :: 12.5%
    Wow, this is even stronger barnyard aromas than the Gruaud Larose. Fully matured and similar to the Gruaud Larose 94, this is also very fresh and intense. Angelica roots, blackberry, creme de cassis, tobacco with strong barnyardy background. This has better intensity and essencially a more complex wine today. Round and silky smooth, lots of sweet berry fruits swimming around the mouth with leather, barnyard, tobacco that flows onto the very fresh, mineral infused finish with medium length. Drinking at it's peak now and by far the best bottle.

  • 2008 Maxwell Shiraz Ellen Street 87 Points

    Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale

    Almost black in color with purplish hue. Very powerful and intense aromas of pepper, spices, dark plum, coconut candy, nail vanish that still very youthful but quite aromatic. While I expect a really powerful, sweet juice (from the color and sweet aromas) on the palate, this is different. Powerful, almost massive and high concentration of sweet dark fruits but well balance by the dry extract and lively acid backbone and very fresh that prevent this from heavy and dull. I especially like the touch of bitter sweet cocoa flavors that kick in at the medium length finish with dark chocolate aftertaste. This is a really well-made Shiraz and enjoyable though quite straight forward.
