    Fresh, mineral, beeswax, nice light palate expression.

  • 2008 Rhys Chardonnay Alpine Vineyard 92 Points

    USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains

    Served blind but definitely a domestic chardonnay. Also knowing who brought the wine, it had to be a Rhys. Ripe fruit, waxy, good mineral expression. The best indication of a domestic chardonnay for me is that my tongue gets heavy and this was no exception. Very well made wine but definitely not resembling a white Burgundy.

  • 2009 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet 93 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru

    The producer and the vineyard that I love but the vintage that I don’t get super excited as I prefer the precision of the 08s. Very primary, bubble gum, banana, flint, limestone, white flower, pear, luxurious decadent fruit expression but would love to see a bit more acidity. It needs time.

  • 1992 Verget Chevalier-Montrachet 94 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru

    Tropical, ripe yellow fruits, mineral, possibly a hint of bortrytis. Deeply toned with layered concentrated fruit. The palate is sumptuous, sweet, and mellow but ends with good palate lifting acidity. I was lucky enough to drink a dozen also of the 92 Leflaive Batard and Chevalier combined and this is not quite there, missing the delicate fruit expression and the freshness but still a wonderful bottle. This must have been an incredible wine to experience at the initial release.

  • 2001 Domaine Denis Bachelet Charmes-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 94 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru

    Expressive nose displaying blackberries, raspberries, sap, olive and balsamico. Tasted blind I may have called it a Cote Rotie. Excellent concentration and bright acidity. This would have shown better with a simply grilled chicken or a hearty game dish with wild mushrooms. In some ways very Burgundian with delicate red fruits then transform and shows expressive nose and masculine characters. The nose was quite expressive and beguiling.

  • 2001 Domaine Perrot-Minot Charmes-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 93 Points

    I brought this and I think I liked the wine more than the others which is unusual. Creamy, cherry, raspberry. Very well made and clean. With time more red fruits emerged also some rose. It got better. Excellent concentration. Not as interesting and unique nose as the other two in the flight but close to equal in quality.

  • 2001 Domaine Joseph Roty Charmes-Chambertin Très Vieilles Vignes 94 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru

    Beautiful expressive nose, raspberry preserves, ripe red and black fruits, coffee, dry herbs and earth. The lightest yet the most expressive showing of the flight. Some Cote Rotie like characters which is very similar to the Bachelet.

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac

    I love the 88 Climen. I tend to think D’Yquem is a step up but not in the 88. This is all about the texture and the texture is that of D’Yquem. So light yet so intense, airy, cotton candy like. Apricot, a hint of Botrytis. Drinking perfectly. A complete wine with extremely consistent showing.

  • 1985 Domaine Huet Vouvray Moelleux Le Mont 94 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

    Incredibly fresh but wet stone/sox tells the age. Very fresh, smoke, golden delicious, cinnamon and flint. Airy palate. The fruit expression is not too complex which drops the rating a few points. Impressive showing.

  • 2006 Royal DeMaria Pinot Blanc Icewine 91 Points

    This smells thick! Red fruits, currants, molasses and hot apple cider with copious amount of cinnamon and cloves. The palate is obviously intense and unctuous. Even with the noticeable acidity this is slightly cloying for me. A great treat.
