Tenzing is the distributor for Bibi Graetz's wines in Illinois and hosted a wonderful dinner at their office in Chicago. Great dinner and very educational. Bibi is a truly engaging and entertaining guy. If you meet him, don't forget to ask him about Soffocone.

    A pleasant summer wine. Accessible, vibrant and fun, even if not particularly nuanced or complicated. The grape is Ansonica.

  • 2010 Bibi Graetz Bugia Bianco Toscana IGT 87 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

    A real step up in intensity and complexity from the Cicala del Giglio 2009 tasted just before. Lush, ripe orchard fruit on nose. Apple and some candied lemon on palate. Moderate length with some good finesse.

    Ripe cherry with oak spice on the nose. Good balanced fruit profile on the palate, even if somewhat simple. Attractive label, fun story behind the wine's name.

    Red fruit on nose and palate already showing age, certainly mature. A bit short on finish, starting to fade in glass. The challenging 2002 vintage shows through.

    Intense white summer flowers on the nose along with plenty of oak spice behind red cherry aromas. Ripe red cherry fruit with some good cocoa elements on palate. Also plenty of oak. Power on finish.

    Intense floral nose with red and black cherry aromas accompanied by oak spice. Same cherry flavors on the palate with good spice, both from fruit and oak. Power on finish. My favorite of the four vintages tasted tonight.

    Red and black fruit on the nose with some moderate spice. Rather fruit forward with a fairly firm tannic structure.

  • 2005 Bibi Graetz Colore Toscana IGT 94 Points

    Lovely ripe black fruit on nose, but perfectly ripe - no sign of being overripe. Modest spice on nose and palate, but this wine is about the fruit. Charming in every way. Everything is in harmony with wonderful textures, length and incredible elegance. Blend of 1 barrel each of Sangiovese, Colorino and Canaiolo from several corners of the family vineyard. Quite a treat with which to end dinner. Bibi has priced this to be the most expensive wine produced in Italy.
