Introduction
A wonderful evening with Bruno Borie of Ducru Beaucaillou. Bruno showcased his Lalande Borie and Croix lines, and then served us the 2003, 2005, 2006 2008 vintages od the Ducru GCC wine. My thoughts are that his Ducru style is not heavy, supremely seductive, somewhat modern and very complex, even exotic on the nose. Top notch wine from a grand estate.
2008 Château Lalande-Borie 84 Points

Nose reveals some cherry, some spice. Simple notes, but pleasant and easy on the palate. Straightforward.

2009 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou Croix de Beaucaillou 88 Points

On the nose, there are aromas of black currant, some tobacco and graphite and a hint of smoke. Medium bodied with a medium to med plus finish.

Some blackcurrant and smoke on the nose, as well as an interesting ground coffee streak. Medium bodied with med to med plus finish. Decent.

2008 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 95 Points

Powerful stuff! The very expressive nose reveals some red cherry, red currant, a violet streak, and some deep exotic spices. Also there are blue fruit notes. The mid palate is smooth, full and seductive. The finish is long to very long. Outstanding. Great concentration on the 2008.

2006 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 94 Points

Certainly cannot compare to the 2005 and 2003 Ducrus, and is a slight notch below the 2008. A more classic style, with notes of black cherry, spices, fine dust and earth notes and subtle wrapped flavors. Also a hint of vanilla. Full bodied with a long finish. The concentration is good but not on the levels of the abovementioned years. A nice classic style.

2003 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 95 Points

This is a powerful, somewhat austere and very dark and ripe wine. Darker black fruits, charcoal, smoke even a slight fig component, perfume, and high concentration in a very masculine style. Certainly more ripe fruit. Big palate with slgihtly more noticeable alcohol and a long, concentrated finish. The 2003 vintage is certainly a unique vintage, and is one of my favorites for that reason.

2005 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 97 Points

The wine of the night by a long shot. What power and finesse, all wrapped into one! Rich, velvety, seductive and supremely balanced! And hte concentration is off the charts. Tight, young and incredibly complex flavors of blackcurrant, blue fruits, plenty of rich perfume and even a truffle component. Luxurious experience! Very long finish. A triumph!
