This was leatherpalate's sending off dinner before his move to Portland. This was a very laid back evening where fun was the goal
A great night, but sadly it will be a while before drinking with LP again. At least it was a sending off in style
1979 Lanson Champagne Brut Vintage Collection 93 Points
France, Champagne
nose: well layered and balanced nose filled with tones of toast, warm honey, brioche, peaches, white fruits and lanolin tones. While it showed maturity, there was a freshness to it as well
taste: fuller bodied with medium+ acidity still showing itself. The acidity isn't searing, just very complimentary. Well balanced and layered with tones of warm honey, brioche, peaches, lanolin, leesy tones and a touch of bleu cheese on the back end
overall: this was from magnum and it developed well in the glass. This was a wonderful mature champagne. Still had a good amount of life left in it as the bubbles were still very much there

1991 R. López de Heredia Rioja Blanco Reserva Viña Tondonia 92 Points
Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja
nose: excellent depth on the nose and very much a moving target with varied tones of brie, saline, roasted nuts and oils. Very much in the LdH style that I would expect and very intriguing
taste: medium/full bodied with medium acidity. There is almost a lightness to the tones with real good depth and balanced tones of brie, saline, roasted nuts, hot oils and some creamed white fruits as well
overall: this bottle didn't last all too long. I would've loved to have spent much longer with this, but with 10 people there is only so much to go around.

2004 Aubert Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard 92 Points
USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
nose: on the richer side, but well balanced with really good tones of meringue, butter, baked apples, cream tones and a good dose of vanilla
taste: full bodied with lower acidity. Very rich with tones of citrus, meringue, baked apples, butter, oranges and vanilla tones. There is good depth on the palate as well
overall: though not my normal style of chard, this was extremely good. There was good depth on both the nose and palate with a real richness as well

1966 Remoissenet Père et Fils Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
nose: very demure and pretty nose that is ever changing. Feminine and layered tones of dark red fruits, vosne spices, rose petals, perfumes and herb tones. This was hard to get a full handle on and was beautiful at the same time
taste: lighter bodied with medium+ acidity. The palate was silky, but showing a bit of decline. Slightly hollow MP, but with feminine and delicate tones of dark red fruits, rose petals, vosne spices and bits of herbs
overall: this was a real treat. The nose presented more than the palate, but it's hard to really describe the beauty this brought.

1970 Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour Private Reserve 91 Points
USA, California, Napa Valley
nose: balanced and pungent nose right off the bat with tones of mint, cedar, dark red cherries, cassis, leather and some bits of roasted nuts
taste: elegant and refined medium feel with medium acidity. Balanced with nice layering and mature tones of mint, cedar, dark red cherries roasted nuts and some bits of leather tones
overall: This did start to fade after about an hour, but it was wonderful while it lasted. This had been stored perfectly since release by one of the other people at the dinner

2002 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grands-Echezeaux 94 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru
nose: this was wound tight for a bit and even by the end of the night it didn't feel like it was soaring yet. Still, very deep and layered with amazing tones of dark red fruits, dark red cherries, all sorts of wild spices, earth tones, rhubarb, and all sorts of floral tones. Ridiculously complex to where you just need your nose in the glass to get everything
taste; ridiculously polished and silky medium feel with very noticeable medium/high acidity. Very suave, but still feels like it's holding back a good bit with layered and regal tones of dark red cherries, earth tones, all sorts of various spices, and loads of floral tones
overall: this showed well, but still has so much more to give. This was an absolute stunner as it showed off a level of class and poise that one doesn't come across too often. My first experience with DRC and I can easily see the greatness in it

1982 Domaine Auguste Clape Cornas Flawed
France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
this seemed past it. The tones were muted on both the nose and palate with the palate being nothing but acid. Darn

1983 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 93 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
nose: very pretty and pungent nose with wafting tones of red fruits, leather, violets, tobacco leaf, spice box and cedar tones. Very good depth and well layered
taste: silky and elegant medium feel with medium+ acidity and polished tannins. Good structure still exists with very balanced and regal tones of red fruits, leather, tobacco leaf, and spice box tones
overall: This was pretty right off the bat. Popped n poured, but also given time to breath. While it should the maturity one would expect, it is certainly going nowhere in a good cellar.

1978 Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Bello 94 Points
USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains
nose: flowing and complex nose filled with tones of cedar, leather, dark red cherries, dark red fruits, cassis, spice tones, leather and a bit of licorice as well. Great depth on the nose with great balance
taste: great depth with a real polished medium/full feel and extremely balanced with silky tones of cedar, dark red cherries, dark red fruits, cassis, spice tones and some bits of licorice
overall: this was in a great place. There was no way to guess this to be as old as it was. It showed maturity, but was far from being barely there. This bottle had a lot of life left and was singing from the beginning.

2001 Araujo Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard
USA, California, Napa Valley
nose: very rich and ripe with big tones of new oak, anise, black cherries, black currants and dark red cherries. Good depth but also very ripe and over the top
taste: full bodied with chewy tannins and ripe tones of anise, chocolate, black cherries, black currants and a good amount of new oak. The feel is very plush and plump
overall: this really wasn't my style. It was also right at the end of the night and I didn't have that much time with it
