Beef and Bordeaux Wine Dinner - Rubyos

Introduction

A little Bordeaux and wine dinner that I was invited to by friends. We opened with the pleasant Chateau de Chantegrive and proceeded through various other pleasant wines with various pleasant dishes. Someone gave a short talk about Bordeaux.

  • 2007 Château de Chantegrive Blanc

    France, Bordeaux, Graves

    Nose: Cream, oak, spice, grass, slight grapefruit and pear
    Mouth: low tannin, medium acid, slight grassiness and green fruit.

  • 2010 Familia Zuccardi Malbec

    Argentina, Mendoza

    Nose: Plum, chocolate, spice, slight astringency, slightly porty
    Mouth: Plum, chocolate - almost coffee. A little hot. Medium chalky tannin, medium minus acid, slight astringency on finish.

  • 2005 Château Lucas Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux

    Nose: Quite floral, white pepper, red fruit. slighty toasty, leather, sweaty.
    Mouth: medium plus acid, medium tannin, red fruit - strawberry, slight white pepper/spice. Little heat.

  • 2006 Château Magneau

    France, Bordeaux, Graves

    Nose: Spice, black fruit, leather, tobacco, slightly jammy fruit and slightly funky stink.
    Mouth: Big, but muted, fruit on front of the palate diminishes rapidly. Medium acid and tannin.

  • 2007 Château Filhot

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

    Nose: Slight orange blossom coupled with sweet marmalade and apricot. There is something a little 'off' as well.
    Mouth: A little cloyingingly sweet. Medium plus acid. Perhaps a little too young. Orange and orange blossom, slight tannin and hints of marmalade.

Closing

pleasant food, pleasant wine, v.pleasant evening. None of the wines was earth-shattering but none were particularly unpleasant. There was also a couple of other Bordeaux that I just can't seem to find anywhere, I may have transcribed the name of the winery incorrectly.
