Introduction
Wine tasting at Wine-Ark. Keith Tulloch, Massolino and Kilikanoon (and Seppeltsfield including the 100 yo para port). Representatives - in the first and third case the owners - give us a talk about the wineries and supply some additional information.
Flight 1 - Keith Tulloch (5 Notes)
Didn't think much of Keith...a little full of himself but I assume one must be in his position.
Flight 2 - Massolino (5 Notes)
Niceish wines..poor chap is not too strong on English and doesn't appear too comfortable in front of an Aussie crowd (not that we're particularly unpleasant!)
Flight 3 - Kilikanoon and Seppeltsfield (3 Notes)
Just an FYI on those Seppeltsfield wines - Paramount Collection Oloroso (nothing to do with true Oloroso in the Jerez sense) and Tokay (nothing to do with true Tokay in the Hungarian sense) and the 1911 Para - which is like the 82 PX I had a while ago on steroids...hints of concentrated passion fruit, black treacle and a bucket load of other stuff.
Closing
Didn't bother writing up my notes for the fortifieds, pleasant though they were... see above. The Barossa Kilikannon is like Mount Edelstone which, at the price, is very good. All three of these wines are huge and very Australian. The Keith Tulloch wines are okay - but the field of mars is a boxed set of three wines...bit of a pain if you only like one or two of them. The Massolino were a little non-descript for what they are.
2005 Keith Tulloch Sémillon
Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley
Colour: clear, lemon with gold highlights
Nose: lime over apple, slight lanolin and floral perfume
Mouth: medium plus acid, sharp and tart, green apple. Long finish, still very young tasting

2003 Keith Tulloch Shiraz Kester Flawed
Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley
Colour: Ruby
Nose: black cherry and plum, black pepper, sweet spice…very slight greenness
Mouth: medium plus acid, tannin and alcohol all over black pepper. Tiny touches of TCA – possible flaw, very bitter.

2010 Keith Tulloch Chardonnay Field of Mars
Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley
Colour: lemon green, legs
Nose: stone fruit, mineral, slate, slight lemon. V.slight cream
Mouth: medium acid, medium minus tannin, lemon moving to stone fruit, rich, mouthfeel though there is bitterness on the finish.

2010 Keith Tulloch Sémillon Field of Mars
Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley
Colour: clear, medium minus intensity
Nose: Muted lime and lemon citrus, spice and slight green apple
Mouth: Tart, ‘crunchy’ green apple, v.slight lees. Medium plus acid, medium minus long finish with alcohol heat.

2007 Keith Tulloch Shiraz Field of Mars
Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley
Colour: Purple
Nose: Green peppercorns over slightly jammy blackfruit, sweet spice and cedar and perhaps vanilla.
Mouth: black fruit and black pepper, bitter and astringent…almost burnt in fact. Medium plus acid. Mouth coating tannin.
