Introduction

Vertical tasting for 8 vintages. All wines were opened for 2 hours (none dacanted).

Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • 2000 Alvaro Palacios Priorat Finca Dofí 89 Points

    Spain, Catalunya, Priorat

    Opened for 2 hours. Dark color, brownish rim. A bit muted on nose, black ripe fruit, smoky nose. Quite dry palate, medium bodied, low acidity, fruity, smooth in mid palate, raisins, coffee. Medium finish. Probably the less interesting of the group. (88-89)

Flight 2 (1 Note)

  • 2001 Alvaro Palacios Priorat Finca Dofí 92 Points

    Spain, Catalunya, Priorat

    Opened for 2 hours. Again dark color, no signs of ageing. Dark rubi color, garnet rim, a lot of tear in glass. More intense on nose than the 2000, a lot of fruit. Still tannic on palate, high acidity, licorice fruit, mineral, medium bodied, fresh, long finish. (91-92)

  • 2002 Alvaro Palacios Priorat Finca Dofí 90 Points

    Spain, Catalunya, Priorat

    Opened for 2 hours. Garnet color, red rim. Not that as much dark as the 2000 and 2001. A lot of ripe red fruit on nose, raisins and some candy. A slight drieness on palate, red fruit and candy. Overall similar to the 2000 vintage. (89-90)

  • 2003 Alvaro Palacios Priorat Finca Dofí 91 Points

    Spain, Catalunya, Priorat

    Opened for 2 hours. Garnet color, red rim. Surprisingly for a warm vintage this shows quite muted on nose and needs more time than the rest to open up. Medium drieness on palate, mediumto full bodied, ripe fruit, dark chocolate, vanilla, coffee. Probably the best palate of the tasting. (91-92)

  • 2004 Alvaro Palacios Priorat Finca Dofí 91 Points

    Spain, Catalunya, Priorat

    Opened for 2 hours. Dark color. A bit reducted to start... rubber, mints, nothing else, needs time for fruit to shiw up. Medium to full bodied, mineral, fruity, powerful, medium to long finish. (91-92)

    Opened for 2 hours. Dark color with garnet rim. Balsamic, vanilla, raisins and coffee on nose. A different style than previous vintages. A bit dry on palate, alcohol, smokiness. (89-90)

    Opened for 2 hours. Medium to dark rubi color. Licorice fruit on nose, smooth and elegant. Medium bodied on palate, smooth, fresh, medium fruity, shows more ready than 06. Long finish. (89-90)

Closing

Overall the 2001, 03 and 05 were clear winners. 2006 and 2007 show a different sytle of wines. More elegant and ready.
