Introduction

For dinner this round, 4 of us with 3bottles of beautiful wines. Started with a bottle of 1996 Dom Perignon Rose. This has explosive bubble from the flutes of my friends, but mine just simply flat with the flavors and mouth feel that I'm found a bit weird compared to what I had previously. Probably due to glass problem, what a pity. However, the following wines were absolutely charming, along with two white truffles dishes, sashimi etc... Yum!

Flight 1 - The older (1 Note)

  • 2001 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Chambertin-Clos de Bèze 94 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru

    Alcohol :: 13.5%
    Highly perfume, but display it's terroir well: powerful and intense, but the power was well in check that show elegance, complexity in a absolutely seductive sense. A bit tight at first, but fanned out in the glass and continue to develop, gained weight and depth. Violet, raspberry, strawberry, blackberry intermixed harmoniously with cloves, pepper, spices, mineral and most importantly, black sugar that marked the distinctiveness from the Dugat Griotte. Just stepped into secondary on the palate. Soft entry that is really refreshing and mouth watering, such detail, layer, focus and precision. With seductive pure sweet red and black cherry fruits that perfectly balance with orange, sweet juicy mineral as well as spices that formed the immense, elegance mouth feel with soft, polish texture that buffer off the underlying power and structured, so harmony that highlight the finesse and grace effortlessly with the complex finish with black tea aftertaste that last more than a min. As great as this, this still has some upside potential for the mid term, classy juice. 94-95+

Flight 2 - The younger (1 Note)

  • 2006 Claude Dugat Griotte-Chambertin 95 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru

    13.5%
    A 2006, popped and poured into the decanter then served right away, I expected this to be tight, muted on the nose and tannic on the palate that is hard to access. However, after I sniffed and sipped it, oh, how wrong I was to have such thought? Highly expressive, airy, perfume and even more chalkier than the Beze. This has touch of stalk in the aromas profile along with red cherry, black cherry and berry fruits . With time, additional layer of violet, star anise, autumn leaves as well as mineral emerged, this too is highly focus, intense and broad shoulder. Palate wise, this started soft but become more explosive and powerful with huge tannin and structured that coated the mouth immediately, yet the juice flow on the tongue gracefully with layers of sweet juicy dark and red fruits, a touch of spice, star anise and also a bit of stalkiness formed the superb depth, immense mouth feel that wrapped in a super refine, pure, harmony package that went on smoothly like a silk to the elegance, detail finish that just sailed on and on with great drive and harmony that is similar to Rousseau which lasted more than a min, but with better intensity as as well as bigger scale, astonishing. Great future! 95-97
