Very approachable, especially compared to regular 98 Beaucastel bottling. Smooth tannins and exquisite raspberry to plum fruit. Very opulent - can be drunk now but will improve with age and last 20yrs

Very youthful, approachable and at beginning of maturity but may improve further! Bacon and blackberry, with sweet and smooth syrah pepper kick. Don't agree with potential to be similar to 61 Latour (had same evening), but this is still a star.

Only 91pts after decant, but improved after 2hrs in glass - adding mineral taste to cherry and earth. Whilst good, was interesting to see this outclassed tonight by 82 La Mission

This is not at maturity, but approachable wih sweet plums and hedonistic layers. 97pts now, but should add at least 2 more pts with time (10yrs+ before peak)

Seems some bottle variation, but this was a good example - now at beginning of maturity, but no hurry. Needs 3hr decant to reveal the minerals, smoke and layered velvety flavours that won me over

Still a pup. Good but not great; go for the 1996 over 1986 if given chance. Chestnuts should come out with time, but still a firm (but velvet) tannic grip

Just read others' reviews on this wine... For what it's worth, I think this will last 50yrs and improve further over time. Not convinced it will ever be a 100pt'er mind you

Still not mature but drinkable... Even the heavy remaining tannins are a joy. A rare 99pts from me, would have got 100pts but for need to have 61 Latour one notch higher

1961 Château Latour Grand Vin 100 Points

Perfect bottle. My first ever 100pts... If this isn't then I don't know what is. Sweet, fruit still strong and the finish is forever. Tobacco leaf, earth, plums and raspberry. And this is from regular bottle, magnum will last 30yrs+!

Creme brûlée and honey orange. I think this is at perfect maturity, although obviously no hurry at all to drink
