2009 Domaine Pavelot (Jean-Marc et Hugues) Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Serpentières
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
Forward, spicy red fruit that is not too ripe. Delicious. In retrospect, the easiest and most stereotypical '09 of the 4 Premier Crus we tasted.

Not as forthcoming as the Serpentieres with a notch more minerality. Very good.

Here one finds more bristling blackberry Savigny fruit. Very lean package that does not shout ripe vintage. Finely rendered so that it is not coarse.

Clearly the most backward and structured of these wines. Needs time but has loads in reserve. Underlying stoniness and black fruit are apparent. Quite a contrast to the '08 version which we tried later.

OK but less interest than any of the Savignys tasted. Not at all memorable although not bad.

Already complex and fragrant. Ripe fruit, much more supple than the '09. In fact, if I had tasted these blind, I'm sure I would have gotten the '08 and '09 exactly backwards. Very impessive and should show well young.
