Is quality, ageable Bordeaux just for elite collectors? Let's see with 20, 10-year old Bordeaux wines from the $40 and under category from JJ Buckley...
Overall, I was quite impressed by many of these wines. None of them fit in my 'outstanding (90+)' categorie, but a handfull were 'Excellent (88-89)'. Too bad that many of these can't be found in retail any more...
To me, this shoes that 'secondary' (affordable) Bordeaux wines from great vintages are great buys if you have the patience to lay them down for ~10 years.
2001 Château La Vieille Cure

Surprisingly not much sign of aging. Somewhat shy nose with cherry and a little bit of vanilla. Average palate. I wasn't very impressed by this bottle. C
74% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Franc, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon.

1998 Château La Fleur de Boüard
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Lalande de Pomerol
Classic Bordeaux style. Nice leather nose, but an irritating alcoohol presence. Palate was good, but seemed a little bit tannic. C
80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
