Introduction

Three Zins served over Thanksgiving. Three different styles, all outstanding. Served non-blind.

  • 2009 Chester's Anvil Zinfandel Mead Ranch 92 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Atlas Peak

    The nose is nice with raspberries, some bramble, a bit of sandalwood, no alcohol. On the palate, this is amazingly smooth. Perhaps the easiest bottle to drink I can remember. Not complex or deep but it is very tasty (mostly red fruits) and easy to drink. I am not sure how well this ages, but I would drink young. Very nice wine.

  • 2010 Bedrock Wine Co. Old Vine Zinfandel 92 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley

    Much bigger Zin, especially on the nose. Aromas are deep with bramble, leather, some alcohol and raspberry jam. Lovely young Zin nose. On the palate, this has a lot of fruit. Huge hit at T-Day with the in-laws. Juicy, full of fruit a backbone of leather and black licorice. Well balanced. Long finish. The bottle was drained in minutes as the few who got some went back and filled their glasses. Glad to have more.

  • 2009 Keating Zinfandel Buchignani Vineyard 90 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County, Dry Creek Valley

    Very smooth in a less rambunctious style. The nose has lots of raspberries, some cherries and some bramble. Smooth to drink with no hint of alcohol. More Bordeaux-like on the palate. I remember this as being less of this style but next to the Chester's and especially the Bedrock, this drinks much more refined. Another bottle drained very quickly.
