Introduction
We and two other couples made our way to the Anvil Club for dinner. We didn't plan the wines ahead of time, so it was just coincidence that we ended up with a couple of '01 Corton Charlies and the '91s. Thanks to Doug & Gretchen and Bob & Laurie for a terrific evening.

From magnum. Aromas of pear, blanched almond, citrus and dough. Fine bead, with apple, toast and brioche flavors. Lovely.

2001 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Corton-Charlemagne 93 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Aromas of lemon oil and minerals with smoky overtones. Terrific balance, with citrus, mineral and stone flavors and a wonderful long finish.

2001 Louis Latour Corton-Charlemagne 90 Points

Coincidentally, Doug had brought the 2001 Girardin, so we had the two side by side. Similar to the Girardin, with lemon, citrus and mineral tones, but lighter. Still an excellent wine, just paled a bit in comparison.

2006 Kistler Chardonnay Vine Hill Vineyard 94 Points

Aromas of lemon oil, minerals and acacia flowers. Robust, with a rich texture and flavors of apple, caramel and citrus. Long finish.

Notes of bright red fruit- currants, violets and dark fruit. Terrific balance, with red fruit, underbrush and raspberry liqueur flavors. Lengthy finish.

1987 Spring Mountain Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 93 Points

Aromas of leather, black currants, plum and eucalyptus. Terrific balance with flavors of plum, dark fruit, red berries and leather. A bit chalky on the finish.

Another of Doug's contributions. Aromas of red fruit, florals, currants, plum and saddle leather. Impeccably balanced, with flavors of red fruit, plum, chocolate and dark fruit. Hints of underbrush. Amazingly long finish. 95-96 pts.

1991 Beringer Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve 95 Points

Deep color - looks youthful in the dim restaurant light. Aromas of leather and plum, mint, dark fruit and coffee. Terrific balance, well-integrated. Flavors of mint, red currants, tobacco, herbs and plums. Wonderful long finish with red fruit and saddle leather tones. Just a hair behind the Insignia tonight.

I had intended to open this alongside the Beringer, then Doug pulled this out of his bag too. What's that they say about great minds? We opened Doug's bottle and I pulled the '87 Spring Mountain instead. Another that looks quite youthful. Aromas of leather, mint, cassis and black fruit. Impeccable balance, with black fruit, plum, underbrush and leather flavors. Long finish. 94-95 pts.
