My Albany-area group met to taste Grand Cru Red Burgundy blind.
With no food, which didn't help this flight.
With Pan Seared Diver Scallop [that's right, just one], baked brie, dressed arugula, lemon garlic butter mignonette, raspberry puree. [Tasty, but not very red-wine friendly (except the brie).]
With Roasted Baby Quail with duck confit, chestnut pancetta farci, pan roasted au jus. [Now we're talking! A great dish and a great match.]
Sliced Veal Tenderloin with cabernet glace divande and rutabaga-red beet au gratin. [The veal was good and good with the wine.]
Some nice wines, but not a lot of value.
1969 Roland Thévenin Echezeaux
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Nose of cherries and pine cones. Sour in the mouth with a dirty finish.

1970 Hospices de Beaune Pommard Cuvée Billardet Maison Albert Bichot 86 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard
Sweet cherry nose. Sweet and complex in the mouth, but with a green bite on the finish that seems quite odd.
