This was a family gathering for Christmas. Way too much food, but some really nice wines.

NV Eric Bordelet Poiré Granit 90 Points
France, Normandy
Medium gold color. This was the first bottle I have had, and I found it quite delightful. Crisp notes of pear on the nose. The palate has just a touch of sweetness, pear with hints of apple, nice acid, very resfreshing. Everyone really enjoyed this change of pace.

NV Veuve Clicquot Champagne Brut 88 Points
France, Champagne
Medium gold color. The nose shows mostly yeast, a touch of smoke and nuts, and some pear. The palate has chalky minerality, fairly dry, apple, pear, yeast, and a little bitter on the end. This was a decent N/V, not quite as good as the last one I had, but when you can get it at 32.99, its pretty decent. 88+pts.

2009 Beringer Vineyards Chardonnay Private Reserve 93 Points

Medium gold color. Wow, this was impressive, the nose really jumps out at you, bright, lovely tropical fruits, with oodles of white flowers, just enough oak to interest you, a bit of butter, and a hint of the richness the palate holds. The palate is wonderful, full, yet elegant, layered and rich, bright acidity, tropical fruits and hint of citrus, restrained oak, this leaves you with a mouthcoating creamy finish. Very classy.

2004 The Hess Collection Mountain Cuvée 91 Points

Very dark red color. Decanted this for 2 hours. Nose shows mint, cedar, herbal, cassis, some earth, and cigar. The palate is very consistent, full bodied, black mountain fruits, dusty minerals, round tannins, medium finish. This really was drinking well.

2007 Ridge Santa Cruz Mountains Estate 93 Points

Very dark red color. Decanted for 2 hours, then drank over 2 hours. The nose is really aromatic, very floral, ripe fruits, creme de cassis and mulberry, later showing some blackberry, hints of chocolate, nice earthiness, cedar, and spices. The palate shows nice body, lush and elegant, consistent with the nose. Round to slightly firm tannins, Long finish. This is drinking really well, but definitely requires decanting.
