A great setting and lovely concept with good friends and multigenerational crowd - not to mention the cooking and the accompanying beverages. On a night like this, reviewing wine is more like an afterthought, but still tried to jot down a few notes to remember it all by.
The diebolt vallois blanc de blanc and the ch d'yquem were the clear winners. The Egly Ouriet 100 % pinot meunier was a very interesting and surprisingly lovely novelty.
NV Diebolt-Vallois Champagne Cuvée Prestige Blanc de Blancs 95 Points

pure, racy, elegant with very fine beads on the mousse and a lovely energy level, as well as a fantastic chardonnay wine feeling.

NV Charles Ellner Champagne de Pompadour Brut 84 Points

a lot of toast, newly baked bread and a note of lemon oil - not bad, but rather roughly chiseled and simple mousse.

NV Egly-Ouriet Champagne Premier Cru Les Vignes de Vrigny 91 Points

great wine, long and elegant; has some body and a lovely nose, but could probably still evolve quite a bit. Interesting with a 100% Pinot meunier - would not have expected such a well crafted gem.

NV Taittinger Champagne Brut Réserve / La Française 88 Points
France, Champagne

delicious nose - very open and full of apple pie and warm spices. On the palate this doesn't quite follow through: it has good energy but the mousse is a tad bit too crude.

a decent basic riesling with both petroleum notes as well as canned pineapple flavors. Slightly effervescent.

2010 Anselmo Mendes Alvarinho Contacto 81 Points
Portugal, Minho, Vinho Verde

very lime driven, a bit harsh on the edges; but fresh and without any real flaws - food friendly.
Major disclaimer - I have never thought of albarino a worthy enough grape to merit the attention it has garnered over the last 5-6 years.

2010 Hessische Staatsweingüter Kloster Eberbach Riesling Spätlese 84 Points
Germany, Rheingau

sweetness is not as perfectly balanced as I would have it, and there's no real complexity to speak of, but it has good length and viscosity - and it's a spätlese...

1998 Château d'Yquem 95 Points
France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

brilliant and complex. Animalistic notes blending with caramel toffee and apricot preserves. Balance was great, but perhaps this is running a little low on acidity if you're thinking about really long term storage projects.

NV André Clouet Champagne Grande Réserve Brut 89 Points
France, Champagne

from a magnum; generous nose of apples and pain grillé, but tempered by a slight bitterness as from bitter almond oil, which adds to the freshness and complexity. Perhaps not as great as I hoped, but still very fine.
