Dinner at Monvinic

Introduction

Informal dinner set up with the excuse to try out the Ferrer Bobet Selecció Especial 2009 (unreleased at this time). The other wines (The FB was a full bottle) were by the glass and either chosen by us or recomended by the staff. These are no formal notes but a reminder/notes of wines I never tasted before.

Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • 1998 Tarlant Champagne Brut Prestige 91 Points

    France, Champagne

    Ligth golden color. Yeast, pastry, almonds, subtle bakery, apple on nose. Palate is elegant, thin, barely no bubbles, vinous and feeling mature. Medium finish.

Flight 2 (1 Note)

  • 2009 Domaine Combier Crozes-Hermitage 88 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Crozes-Hermitage

    Medium cherry color. Nose shows floral scents like violets but mainly baked meat, bacon... very meaty. Medium bodied, medium acidity, well balanced, red fruit on palate, medium finish. Just ok for me but well made.

    South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch

    Red cherry color, a tad bit sweet on nose, red fruit, clearly strawberries with some air. Fruity palate, medium to thin bodied, medium finish. A different style of what I'm used to, it may need some food or it can become boring.

  • 2009 Ferrer Bobet Priorat Selecció Especial Vinyes Velles 91 Points

    Spain, Catalunya, Priorat

    Decanted for 2 hours. Dark, bright cherry color. Nose is initially a bit shy, liquor, red fruit, forrest floor, mineral. On palate it's medium bodied, it has quite acidity, fruit and balance but so far it lacks the explosiveness and appeal from the 2008 vintage, which was awesome. Last glass really improved on nose, becoming more fresh, clean and floral, which certainly may scan a brigther future. Maybe this is just way too young (it will be released in 3 months), maybe it needs more time but we had a very high expectations for this wine, specially in such a promising 2009 vintage, that overall we left just a bit disapponted. Still, a very good wine that must be reviewed in the near future and that for sure it will need more time to show what it may have (as opposite to 2008 that is already rocking).

  • 2004 Nino Negri Sfursat 5 Stelle

    Italy, Lombardia, Valtellina, Sforzato di Valtellina

    Last wine of the evening, recomended by the sommelier. Very sweet, this can almost be had with a dessert. Cherry, floral, sweet, candy, medium to thin bodied, easy to drink and quite pleasurable. However, I'm not used to these type of wines but it was nice to try. NR.
