Fairly deep. Broadly flavored, large scaled wine. Good combination of ripe red fruit, light earthiness and gentle wood treatment. Lively enough. Good but hardly worth the exorbitant, Grand Cru price.

Lighter than the '09 with slightly tawny edge. Fragrant wet earth and strawberry. Lighter, more typical Chambolle weight, noticeably higher acidity. One of the prettiest wines of the tasting, promises to be more lean and elegant than the '09 Premier Cru-a triumph of vintage over hierarchy.

Medium color. All funk, earth and soy on the nose-very complex. Light but gains weight. This is all soil with little apparent fruit and powerful back end acidity. Those reared on New World Pinot would find this nothing less than completely shocking and foreign. Personally, I find it interesting, especially aromatically, but not particularly enjoyable. It is at the far end of the spectrum of terroir-driven wines.

Light color. Very sexy nose of smoke and red fruit. Light weight, overwhelming core of high char oak which is just too much for the delicate fruit of the vintage. Good acidity. This is the most dressed up Mugnier wine I've had, not at all a good thing in any vintage, but especially a lighter one. Its initial seductiveness was very short lived.

Moderately deep. Ripe nose but more herbal nose than any of the preceding wines. Big entry, some complexity imparted by its earthy finish. Overall heavy impression. Not bad as generic Burgundy, but not what I want from Chambolle.

Medium center, lighter rim. Gamy and funky. Ripe start, brambly red fruit. Not overly tannic but good grip from acidity, excellent intensity for weight, soil filled finish. I was surprised at how drinkable it was for an '05, although it clearly will continue to soften and develop. This performed above its class and had the most tangy Chambolle character of all of the wines.

Medium to light red. Bell pepper and herbs. Light weight but not stringy in terms of mouth feel. An opening salvo of ripeness immediately gives way to unpleasantly high acidity and herbaceousness. Sadly, this is better than many/most '04s but is still frankly unattractive bordering on undrinkable.

2008 Domaine Bruno Clair Chambolle-Musigny Les Véroilles

2006 Hubert Lignier Chambolle-Musigny
