Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
Sweet and dry with a light dust (not clean chalkiness but slightly dirtier). Tobacco on the nose - Clearly aged and orange. Do not delay in drinking this up asap as past its prime but still drinkable.
Light brown tinge and a clean light dusty/chalky nose. A dry finish which is smooth - keep drinking up. Does not have much fruit and more merlot'ish than a cab now.
Jammy - light red/purple with a light metallic finish. This wine was not decanted and had a far softer mid and finish than I would have expected. A shortish finish and not what I expected from this - next day the wine was significantly improved and mellow and probably moved significantly towards a 90.
Dark red and a strong dusty nose. Balanced fruit that doesn not overpower. A moderate to shorter end for the finish and a small hint of sweetness. Definitely at its peak and beautiful now -- I will drink the other bottles I have this year.
Dark red, very extracted and strong heavy tannins - cassis and cherry on the nose. Very fruit forward and can still lie for a few more years. Bold with a touch of heat in the finish which still needs to mellow. I think the score could improve with a few more years cellaring - I will try my next bottle in 2013.
