Introduction
While these wines have been in the Chicago area for a while, I can't remember the last time that they were all at the same tasting. This was a great chance to check out the 2010 CdPs in bottle and get a good glimpse at the upcoming vintage

Closing
I'm a big fan on the whole of these wines. Well balanced, but with a lot of tannins. This comes off as a long haul vintage with a lot of patience needed behind it. There is no doubt that the southern rhone has yet another hit behind it with this vintage
2010 Domaine Olivier Hillaire Châteauneuf-du-Pape 91 Points

nose: very aromatic with balanced tones of black fruits, spices, garrigue, and hot stones. Excellent depth with a real good spice base on the nose
taste: medium/full bodied with a more plush and smooth feel along with some grippy tannins. Balanced with excellent tones of black fruits, spices, garrigue and dark red cherries
overall: Delicious with a savory quality to it. Balanced with good spices on both the nose and palate, this certainly needs time but can be really good

2010 Domaine Olivier Hillaire Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Petits Pieds d'Armand 92 Points

nose: tight and a bit unforgiving. With some real swirling tones of dark red fruits, dark berries, spices, black fruits, liqueur and anise tones emerge. Excellent depth but very tight
taste: medium bodied with a real silky feel. Coarse tannins with real good depth and tones of dark red fruits, dark berries, spices, and some anise+liqueur tones
overall: this is 100% grenache. It's as young as would be expected and really needs a lot of time. This could really be something with real age on it

2010 Mas de Boislauzon Châteauneuf-du-Pape 91 Points

nose: tight nose with real good depth and balanced tones of creamed red and black fruits, spice tones, florals, and lavender
taste: medium bodied with lower acidity but very good tannins. The tannins are firm with good tones of black fruits, red fruits, florals and some bits of lavender
overall: this does need some time. Doesn't come off as being too tight, but still quite young.

2010 Mas de Boislauzon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée du Quet 93 Points

nose: very pure nose that is on the tight side with tones of red and black fruits, hot stones, lavender and liqueur tones
taste: medium/full bodied with really good depth. Chewy tannins with great tones of spices, red and black fruits, some lavender and liqueur tones as well
overall: very young, but a real showstopper in waiting. Well balanced on both the nose and palate with great pure tones as well

2010 Mas de Boislauzon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Le Tintot 93 Points

nose: lovely and heady with dark tones of spices, black cherries, florals, and liqueur tones. Excellent depth with a very attractive dark quality to the nose
taste: very polished and great medium feel with silky tannins. The tannins aren't as coarse as the Quet with tones of florals, garrigue, liqueur tones, various spice tones, and black cherries
overall: A polished and young CdP. There is more of a dark profile to this as opposed to the quet. Balanced with great tones on both the nose and palate

2010 Domaine Pontifical Châteauneuf-du-Pape 90 Points

nose: very good tones of red and black fruits, red cherries, dark berries and mesquite tones. Well balanced with nice depth
taste: medium bodied with forward tones of red fruits, red cherries, berries and mesquite. Good supporting tannins back this up
overall: This was more upfront on the fruit. Good tannins show the youth of the wine, but this doesn't come off as a long haul CdP

2010 Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape 90 Points

nose: tight nose with dark tones of licorice, liqueur, black fruits, black cherries and spice tones backed up by good depth
taste: chewy tannins with a medium feel and low acidity. Good and forward dark tones of licorice, liqueur, black cherries, and spice tones
overall: Certainly young, but with a forward side to it. This will need a few years to round into form but this seems like a CdP that will be ready on the earlier side

2010 Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée de mon Aïeul 93 Points

nose: Rich, ripe and extracted nose filled with tones of black and red fruits, spices, liqueur, and tones of hot stones. A lot of depth and while it is forward, it is on the tight side as well
taste: full bodied with very chewy tannins and lower acidity. Very plush on the feel behind the tannins with great depth and extracted tones of black fruits, red fruits, spices and liqueur tones
overall: great depth and insanely young. The tannins certainly show the youth, but the fruit of the wine is very desirable right now for those that want it

nose: very savory nose filled with tones of black fruits, dark red cherries, red fruits, some bits of tobacco and garrigue. Excellent depth and it is a bit on teh tight side
taste: very well balanced medium feel with very chewy tannins. Excellent depth with great tones of black fruits, garrigue, tobacco, a bit of leather and some dark red cherries
overall: this is showing very well now, but it has much to give for later. Great profile on both the nose and palate with excellent depth as well

nose: forward nose of tart red fruits, spice tones, black cherries, red licorice, and liqueur tones
taste: medium bodied with chewy tannins but lacking a bit of depth and a mid palate. Balanced with forward tones of tart red fruits, black cherries, red licorice, and liqueur tones
overall: a very good chateauneuf. Obviously young, this can improve with some time and is more for those that want a fruit forward CdP

nose: brooding and rich nose of black fruits, liqueur, anise, and black cherries. On the ripe side with a forward quality to it
taste: full bodied with chewy tannins. Rich with ripe tones of black fruits, liqueur, and black cherries. Pretty large on the palate that is kind of chunky
overall: this is an amped up and a bit monolithic. This was a bit overdone and I'm not sure what time will do to it

nose: dark and forceful nose of dark red fruits, black fruits, garrigue, spice tones and black licorice. Good depth and a bit tight right now too
taste: medium bodied with chewy tannins. Really good feel behind the tannins and dark tones of dark red fruits, black fruits, garrigue, and black licorice
overall: Very young with a good dark profile. This will need a good amount of sleep time with some room to improve

2010 Bosquet des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape A la Gloire de mon Grand-Père 93 Points

nose: very stylish, but tight, and deep nose filled with tones of garrigue, dark red fruits, dark red cherries, bramble tones and bits of wild spices. Very well balanced with a savory quality to it as well
taste: fuller bodied with some thrashing tannins. The tannins are on the overbearing side, but underneath them are great tones of dark red fruits, black fruits, spices, dark red cherries and a good amount of garrigue
overall: in need of a lot of nap time. This is a longer haul CdP, but it feels like there is a lot to reward that. Very good depth on both the nose and palate right now too

2010 Bosquet des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Chante Le Merle Vieilles Vignes 92 Points

nose: tight with good depth and dark tones of spices, lavender, black fruits, dark red cherries and garrigue tones
taste: medium/full bodied with very chewy tannins and youthful tones of spices, lavender, dark red cherries, hot stones, and bits of garrigue
overall: very young and certainly in need of time. Attractive and the tannins aren't too much right now. This feels like it can be drunk young, but it does need some time to sort everything out

nose: good nose and on the more funky side with tones of tobacco, black fruits, some funk and black cherry liqueur
taste: medium/full bodied with good silky tannins. Good balanced tones of tobacco, leather, black fruits and some black cherry liqueur tones. Lacking some depth though on the palate
overall: A very good CdP. If this had more depth, it would be real interesting, as is it's a nice CdP that comes off as good for earlier drinking

nose: on the slightly forward side with tones of red fruits, dark red berries, garrigue, and red cherries backed by nice depth as well
taste: very good medium body with chewy tannins. Balanced with good depth and red based tones of red fruits, dark red berries, red cherries and spice tones as well
overall: This comes off as a wine that needs a bit of time, but should be an earlier drinking wine. Well balanced and more on the red fruit spectrum with nice depth on both the nose and palate

nose: very funky at first and brett dominated. Blows off after some serious swirling and waiting it blows off a bit and provides tones of black licorice, dark red fruits, and spice tones
taste: medium bodied with nice supporting tannins. Good balance, but lacking some depth along with tones of lavender, black licorice and some funk tones as well
overall: This was lacking some depth on both the nose and palate. Well balanced but a bit too dominated by brett at first

nose: deep and balanced nose with tones of black fruits, mineral rich earth, hot stones, wild spices and tones of garrigue. A bit on the tight side right now
taste: medium/full bodied with rich and chewy tannins. Well balanced, and a bit on the rough side right now, with deep tones of black fruits, hot stones, wild spices, and garrigue
overall: This does need some time, but it seems like a possible stunner. Great depth on both the nose and palate with great tones as well

taste: lovely medium feel with chewy tannins and creamy tones of black fruits, red fruits, dark red cherries, tobacco and some leather tones. Very good depth showing as well
overall: I liked the more rustic approach from this CdP. Well balanced and with good depth on both the nose and palate. This certainly needs some time as well because the tannins are pretty noticeable right now

nose: this was completely overblown with dark red fruits, raisins, liqueur, leather and anise. There is a port-like quality to this on the nose and not in a good way
taste: full bodied and intensely ripe. Very large and portish tones of dark red fruits, liqueur,and leather
overall: This was overdone and run amok. There was good depth on both the nose and palate, but the tones were too ripe to get much enjoyment from that depth

nose: well balanced and very good tones of dark red fruits, berries, leather and garrigue tones. Decent depth to this as well
taste: elegant medium body with very good tannins. Very good balance with tones of tobacco, leather, berries and dark red fruits
overall: This is a good early drinking CdP. It could use a little time, but it's not a long distance runner.

overall: this does need some time. The tannins aren't too big and there is good balance to this.

nose: very tight nose that doesn't give much without some serious swirling. What does poke through is very good tones of black fruits, black cherries, spice, black pepper and tobacco tones
taste: medium/full bodied with big and gripping tannins showing off the youth of the wine. Well balanced with very good depth and tones of black fruits, lack cherries, garrigue, and some leather
overall: This was obviously very young, but with a lot to like about it. There is a real attractive black fruit base to the wine and it certainly does need years to be ready, but this should also be one that becomes even better with age

nose: dark, meaty, and savory nose filled with tones of dark red fruits, black fruits, liqueur, spice tones and garrigue. Nice depth, but certainly on the tight side right now
taste: medium/full bodied with gripping tannins along with tones of dark red fruits, liqueur, spices and garrigue tones. The tannins really thrash the palate at this time
overall: This should be really good with some time on it. Doesn't seem as tight as some of the other young CdPs, but it's still young

nose: very meaty nose with dark tones of black fruits, dark red fruits, black licorice and some bits of liqueur as well. Extremely good depth shows through some of the tightness
taste: medium/full bodied with chewy tannins and very good depth. Balanced with great tones of meats, black fruits, dark red fruits, black licorice and spice tones
overall: This will certainly need time. Balanced with real good depth and a very savory quality on both the nose and palate

2010 Domaine de la Charbonnière Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Spéciale Les Hautes Brusquières 93 Points

nose: much different nose from the other charbonnieres with a more lifted and feminine style to it with tones of spices, lavender, florals, red currants and dark red fruits
taste: very silky and stylish medium feel, but with very good tannins to back it up as well. Well balanced with really good tones of garrigue, lavender, red currants, dark red fruits and incense
overall: This is a real pretty and young CdP. This definitely needs time, but it is very attractive at the moment. Different from its stable mates, but different in a very good way
