Introduction

This was a really fun tasting featuring the wines of Le Cadeau with owners Tom and Deb Mortimer. Tom and Deb brought along something from each of their vintages to date.

Flight 1 - Opening Wines from the Group (4 Notes)

  • 2007 Chester's Anvil Chardonnay 88 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

    Pale gold color. Nose shows prominent minerality, stoney, apple, pear. The mid palate is a bit thin, mineral driven, some citrus is added to the apple and pear, some sharp edges on the finish. 88+pts.

  • 2007 Ramey Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 92 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

    Medium-light gold color. Nose is vibrant with tropical fruits, pineapple, oak, subtle butterscotch, apple, flinty mineral, pain grille. the palate is really full and round, layers of deep flavors, consistent with the nose. Long lingering finish. Very well balanced. Loved it. 92+pts.

  • 2009 Rhys Chardonnay Santa Cruz Mountains 90 Points

    USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains

    This started off light and subtle, but really grew and evovled over 30 minutes. Light oak, apple and citrus, mineral. The change in depth was really striking, this became round and rich compared to where this started, at least a 2pt evolution.

Flight 2 - Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2007 Le Cadeau Pinot Noir Côte Est 91 Points

    USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

    Dark red color. This was drinking particularly well tonight. Maybe I just have an affection for this wine, but the nose was bright with ripe fruit of cherry and berries, briar, spice. The palate was velvety, lovely and balanced, elegant. 91+pts.

  • 2009 Le Cadeau Pinot Noir Cote Est Reserve

    USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

    Dark red color. 18 months in 100% new oak, 13.8% alcohol. This was very young, fairly big red fruit, still tight, some rough edges at this point on the palate. Initial impression 89pts as is. Needs time.

Flight 3 - Flight 2 (3 Notes)

  • 2002 Le Cadeau Pinot Noir 93 Points

    USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

    Dark red color. This was really impressive tonight. Round rich, full, big fruits still, darker, mainly black cherry, lots of earth, nice overall balance and finesse. Long finish. Loved it. Probably the WOTN for me.

  • 2003 Le Cadeau Pinot Noir 88 Points

    Dark red color. First bottle was flawed. This bottle still stuck me as little different too. Very spicy with red fruits, medium body, pomegranite. Least interesting of the flight.

  • 2004 Le Cadeau Pinot Noir Côte Est 90 Points

    I really like the nose on this one, nice dark red fruit, a bit of sweetness. The palate seems a bit behind here with some prominent oak, spice and slightly harder edges. It softens and evens out more over about 30 minutes though. Another nice Cote Est.

Flight 4 - Flight 3 (3 Notes)

  • 2008 Le Cadeau Pinot Noir Serendipity 91 Points

    USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

    Wow, there's a lot going on here. This wine is young, but very vibrant, the nose is open with sweet, rich aromas of black cherry and dark berries. The palate is full and lush, consistent with the nose, prominent tannins, good acid. This should be even better in another year or 2, but it was really good now.

  • 2005 Le Cadeau Pinot Noir Diversite 91 Points

    This was another winner from the flight, very lush all around, nice blend of spices, oak, and berries. Good structure, round tannins. Well balanced. 91+pts.

  • 2008 Le Cadeau Pinot Noir Côte Est 92 Points

    Wow, I really love the nose on this. Great earth component, really nice fruits of black cherry and black raspberry, florals, with nice intensity. Long finish, really rich with layering, and still young. If nothing else, I certainly confirmed that I really like Cote Est, and this is great. 92+pts.

  • 2006 Le Cadeau Pinot Noir Rocheux 90 Points

    This was another winner, really nice nose with spice, florals, lush notes of strawberry and cherry. Medium body, consistent palate.

  • 2009 Le Cadeau Pinot Noir Rocheux

    Very young, Asian spice, fairly big dark red fruits, lots of tannins and grip right now. Needs some time. Probably around 88pts for me with some room for improvement.

  • 2009 Le Cadeau Pinot Noir Équinoxe

    Dark red color. I preferred this over the '09 Rocheaux. Still very young and burly, black fruits, oak, spice, some alcohol coming through, opulent. Long finish. Impression is 90-91pts.

  • 2008 Le Cadeau Pinot Noir Equinoxe Reserve 91 Points

    Not a lot of detailed notes, Nose was very nice, vanilla, spice, earth, ripe dark fruits. Palate is full and rich, consistent. Nice finsih.

  • 2010 Le Cadeau Pinot Noir Merci 90 Points

    USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

    This was real treat. Very low production, only 48 cases, literally hand bottled today for this tasting by Tom. Showing lots of potential, lighter in style with berries, citrus notes, brown sugar. The palate is medium bodied, elegant, prominent acid right now. Basically a barrel tasting, very good, and would love to get an opportunity to see this in a few years. 90+pts.
