Flight 2 (1 Note)

  • 2009 Lapostolle Carménère Cuvée Alexandre 90 Points

Chile, Rapel Valley, Colchagua Valley, Apalta

Deep purple color. Sweet, dark fruit nose, black plum, mountain herbs, fresh mint. Extremely youthful palate, very fresh yet silky mouthfeel, purple fruit, black olive paste, rosemary, green tea, plenty of acidity but fruit maintains the sweet Carménère edge throughout, firm tannins on the finish. 90+

  • 2006 Allegrini Palazzo della Torre Veronese IGT 90 Points

    Italy, Veneto, Veronese IGT

Decanted 3 hours. Barnyard, dirty sock, prune, dark chocolate on the nose. Firm palate, heavy cigar, loose leaf tobacco with sweeter pipe tobacco mixed in, lots of raisin, dark purple to black fruits. Youthful, firm acidity, starts rustic but rolls into a nice juicy finish with pleasant tannins.

Flight 4 (1 Note)

  • 2005 The Colonial Estate Shiraz Mungo Park 91 Points

Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

Decanted 4 hours. Red licorice, bitter dark raspberry, molasses, vanilla bean, dried herbs, dark chocolate shavings. Rich, heavy and complex, certainly a tad bitter and extracted, but also tight and still quite young.
