1st dinner in 2012 with K, M and T

Introduction

K called for 1st dinner in 2012 at our favorite restaurant Jade Palace. All wines showed really well tonight, included the 2009 Rossignol Trapet Chambertin, which I believed benefit from the warmth of 2009 that make this more approachable than usual. I was always wanted to try the 2000 Janassse VV but sigh, it was corked. WOTN was no doubt the magnificent 1970 Trotanoy, yum!

  • 2001 La Spinetta (Rivetti) Monferrato Pin 92 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Monferrato

    Alcohol :: 14.5%
    En Magnum. Opened for 2hrs and decanted for another 1.5hrs. Dark ruby red. This was really expressive right out of the bottle and showed more layers with air. Graphite, smoke, tar intermixed with rose petal, sweet red cherry and raspberry, quite aromatic and very firm and intense. On the palate it was intense with excellent richness and concentration. Darker fruits profile than the nose with the warmth of Italy and some exotic spice. I was surprised that the tannin was more or less resolved. Solid structured but well polished. Medium length finished with mineral aftertaste. Delicious now but not problem to keep for another 5-7yrs.

  • 2009 Domaine Rossignol Trapet Chambertin 94 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

    Vibrant ruby red. Still pretty tight after double decanted for 2hrs, no surprised. However, the nose was highly seductive and gorgeous nevertheless, I could only imagine how great will this be when its mature. Mineral driven with attractive aromas of sweet raspberry and red cherry, with time, darker berry note appeared. Wild meatiness and sense of coldness for the restraint, underlying spiciness, highly perfume with violet and rose. Dense but weightless, already showed impeccable balance and harmony at this young age. Tons of delicious mid palate sappiness all wrapped in an absolutely firm but well polished acidic backbone. Tannin is massive but almost completely buffer by the concentration of fruits and dry extract that formed the excellent mid palate depth and lend incredible grip and tension to the superb long finished infused with spices and mineral, sweet and juicy. I love this wine. 94-95+

  • 1970 Château Trotanoy 96 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

    Opened for 60mins. Decanted and served. The color is absolutely showed much younger than a 42yrs old wine: dark garnet core with light brown hue. Stunning complex aromas with superb fragrance that is hard to dissect, everything is in a total harmony. Can the palate catch up? No when popped and poured but after decanted and have some aeration in the glass, this was gorgeous and every bit as great as the nose. Youthful, expansive and flirting with seductiveness, finesse and class. Light savory note on the entry bring out the sweet blackberry, blackcurrant and plummish fruits intermixed with dried herbs, earth, leather and crushed rock complexity with remarkable grip and tension. Very pure and concentrated, still a touch of firm tannin enhanced the grip that leads to the intense, detail finished that goes on and on. Incredible freshness. A complete wine that is in its peak and will easily last for at least another decade. Magnificence.

  • 1993 Château Pajzos Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos 91 Points

    Opened for 2.5hrs. Dark mahogany. Soft expressive aromas of earl grey, sweet peaches and dried apricot with additional layer of savory, nut, earth and spices. Similar to the previous bottle, this was drinking well and the balance between the sugar, acidity and dry extract was amazing. Honey, haw flakes and dried apricot richness flowed onto the palate softly but intensely. Thanks to the fresh acidity that give this highly concentrated Tokaji excellent lift and focus. There was this savory and black tea complexity kick in after the mid palate which added additional dimension and freshness to it and move on to the good delicious finish with medium length.
