Introduction

Petri brought the wines, I tasted double blind

  • 2009 Château Grange-Neuve 89 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

    Decanted for an hour. Almost black with a distinct purple edge to it. The nose is very fruity with lots of dark berries and plums, a bit of oak coming through in a pleasant way, a slight smokiness and some barnyard coming out after some time in the glass. The palate was soft and rich, very fruity, not much tannins, not sweet, very nice. Tasting this double blind it was obvious that this was a well-crafted wine, I liked it a lot.

  • 2008 Nugan Estate Durif Manuka Grove

    Australia, New South Wales, Big Rivers, Riverina

    Decanted for an hour. Almost black with a distinct brownish edge. Woah, what's going on here? Almost port-like, raisiny, strong smells. Not bad, but not what one expects from a red wine. The palate is also port-like, lots of tannins, quite acidic. This must be flawed in some way, perhaps a touch oxidized? It's quite good despite the strangeness... The cork looked good. I dunno, but I'll leave it unscored in case it is flawed.
