    Nice pleasant bubbly with some crisp clear acidity and some lemony brioche notes.

  • 2000 Domaine Rossignol Trapet Latricières-Chambertin 90 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru

    Light flowery wine with a good balance. Notes of plumbs and raspberries, a little bit short on the palate.

  • 2001 Luciano Sandrone Barolo Le Vigne 92 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

    Rich deep dark and brooding, although saying that it was not too heavy on the palate.
    All the classic elements of Barolo from a good year, everything in balance.

    Not a big nose but aromas of cherries and forest floor.

  • 2006 Bodegas Vega-Sicilia Ribera del Duero Valbuena 5° 95 Points

    First of all this wine should not really be drunk yet and I would lay it down for a bit longer.

    But what a wine. This is really up there in quality with the Unico's and the reserva.

    Very strong powerful nose of cassis, tobacco and vanilla.
    Long smooth rich taste with a great length.

    Go out and buy some.

    What can I say about this wine. Yes I know it was infanticide but my God this is wonderful.

    You just have to hold your nose a couple of inches from the glass to get the amazing primary aromas of cassis and vanilla. In time this will develop into a beautiful complex structure.

    The mouth is soft but with a lot of tannins. The length that just keeps going.

    Huge complex wine with a great nose and taste.

    The nose has a lot of cassis, tobacco and forest floor. The taste is smooth rich and very very long. You can taste the Merlot rounding out the flavour.

    The length of this wine just seems to keep on going. You have time to contemplate and ponder the amazing complexity.

    After a night of wonderfully wines this stood out as a very nice reasonably priced wine.

    Deep rich nose with soft tannins and a good depth.

Closing

An excellent evening with some amazing wines. Need to get back down into those cellars again. I suppose for me the surprise of the night was the quality of the BBR Extra Ordinary Claret and also the Vega-Sicilia Ribera del Duero Valbuena 5°.
The Wine of the Night was the 2006 Penfolds Grange even though we did commit infanticide
