2012 - Peperoni Pizzeria

Dinner at the newly open peperoni pizzeria at Zion road. This casual, family concept pizzeria having lovely interior decoration with the wall paint with the color of an Italy flag (green, white and red) as well as the ambient. All staffs is friendly and attentive. Food was above average and price was reasonable. Will I return? Yes.

• 2009 Famille Vincent Pouilly-Fuissé Château Fuisse Tête de Cru 86 Points

  Popped and poured. Light straw yellow. Lovely aromas of citrus lemon, mineral and a touch of smoke. Pretty straight forward on the palate but this is no doubt a delicious white. Again, this wine benefit from the warmth of the 2009 vintage, the acidity is ripe and refreshing, accompany by good amount of ripe lemon and peach fruits for the lightly creamy, well balance mouth feel. Finished clean, medium length with lots of mineral to offer.

• 2010 Oremus Furmint Tokaji Dry Mandolás 85 Points

  Popped and poured. I always like the dry whites from Tokaji, I thought they offer exceptional value for the quality. Light yellow. The aromas is almost Sauvignon Blanc alike with fresh cut grass, grape fruits, pink guava but perhaps slightly more mineral and a touch of nuttiness that separated it from the SB. Clean and refreshing, the acidity is slightly on the high side with just sufficient amount of ripe white and a touch of yellow fruits for the balance. The medium length finished is dry and clean, with tons of crushed rock and liquid mineral. Paired really well with both squid ink pasta and Amatriciana.

• 2008 Château La Gaffelière 88 Points

  Opened for 4hrs. Medium ruby red, vibrant. This has very soft but highly perfume aromas of cedar, violet, blackcurrant and blackberry intermixed with crushed rock and hint of smoke. Still a little bit tight on the palate, but overall this has very subtle, delicate mouth feel with excellent grip and tension as the tannin was soft and the structured is rather polished for a 3rys old Bordeaux. This has remarkable freshness (as from most of the 2008 I have had, all offer outstanding freshness), purity and medium level of concentration. Finished is a little bit spicy and light savory with dark chocolate aftertaste, long. This should drink well in another 3-5yrs time. 88-89+

• 2001 Trimbach Gewurztraminer Sélection de Grains Nobles 93 Points

  Opened for 5.5hrs. Medium golden. The nose was very sweet with a lots of candied fruits right out of the bottle and palate was spicy, bitter and alcoholic. However, the wine turned into a totally different beauty after 5.5hrs of aeration as well as lower temp. The nose was complex and though still sweet, the focus was there. Honey, rose petal, lychee fruits, some spices and herbs all supported firmly by the huge mineral at the background. The palate is really rich, but surprisingly delicate and elegance, thanks to the ripe acidity and refreshing mineral for the wonderful lift and balance. With time, additional layer of nut, spices evolved, together with the stunning inner perfume of rose petal and lychee. Very long, spicy infused finished, clean. This is excellent, and perfectly matched with the blue cheese.
