Introduction

Decided to try a few Syrahs all together playing the game Winerd. Fun time, pretty solid bottles. With parents and Erin.

Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2008 John Duval Wines Shiraz Entity 90 Points

    Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

    Solid bottle of Syrah, slow ox for 7 hours. Classic Australian nose to me - big fruit, a touch of alcohol. Mouth was big fruits, vanilla, smooth. Nice overall bottle for it's style.

  • 2007 Bonaccorsi Syrah Larner Vineyard 89 Points

    USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley

    Slow ox for 7 hours. Purple. Dark red fruit, nice aromatics or fruits, smoke. Pepper on mouth, red fruit, smooth, but a touch of alcohol at end. Could use another year or two.

  • 2008 Passage Rock Syrah Waiheke Island Reserve 90 Points

    New Zealand, North Island, Auckland, Waiheke Island

    Slow ox 7 hours. Distinct Syrah relative to the Australian and Californian ones we had alongside of it. Funk, wet forest floor on the nose, smoke. Nice fruit as well, medium bodied...could use more time or bigger decant.
