  • 2001 Château Duhart-Milon 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

    Yep, it's bordeaux, albeit in a rather modern, open and accessible style. Cherries and cassis, oak is well integrated, touch of barnyard, harmonious and balanced. A very pleasurable, seductive and sympathetic glass of wine. 17.5/20

  • 2003 Château Haut-Batailley 87 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

    Sweetish, liqueur-like nose, lots of toast and espresso, exotic flowers, all hinting at 2003 vintage. Still, this wine has considerable acidity, which somehow seemed out of place in such a lush and extracted wine. In the mouth, the structure and matter is very prominent, but the fruit less so. Coffee, chocolate and kirsch impressions prevail. Not very interesting, I must say. 16/20

  • 1998 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste 89 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

    Starts a little dusty on the nose. cigar, ceder, black olives, grilled bell pepper. Although the tannines are smooth, soft and reasonably integrated, the wine leaves a minimal impression of unripeness. In the back, nuances of dusty paper/old books remain and some asian spice joins in later. Not very fruity at the moment. Earnest and reserved. 17/20

  • 2003 Château Grand-Puy Ducasse 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

    Masculine and impressive nose hinting at smoke, cassis, mocca, kirsch and pipe tobacco. Seems the most Pauillac-like in this tasting with its virile and concentrated, but also round and plush mouthfeel. Great potential. Beautiful wine. Was very surprised and impressed when the foil came off... 18/20

  • 1999 Château Clerc Milon 89 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

    Utterly charming and ready to go. Black cherrynotes over hints of earth, forestfloor, chocolate and coffee. After an hour the palate is getting even more interesting offering hints of gingerbread, blueberries and oriental spice. Juicy, very drinkable, totally a-point. Tannines are completely integrated. Alas the finish is a bit clipped. 17/20

  • 1999 Château Pontet-Canet 85 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

    Hints of roasted coffee, sweet cherries and prunes on the nose. No notable acids, actually pretty plump. The structure is quite 'loose' and unbalanced. Don't know what's wrong. No faults, but no fun either. Disappointing. 15/20
