  • 2008 Ducard Philibert Chablis 85 Points

    France, Burgundy, Chablis

    Pale yellow. Lots of acidity and minerality in this wine, salty sea shells, wet rocks. Tart fruit on the nose (lemon, carambola, white currants, granny smith). Brisk, fresh and tight. Young and quite rough at the moment. Give it one more year. Average. 15/20

Flight 2 (7 Notes)

  • 1999 Château La Sergue 89 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Lalande de Pomerol

    First signs of evolution in the rubyred colour. Nose has interesting nuances of sweet tobacco, oranges, cassis and prunes, Xmaspudding and cocoa-powder. On the palate this certainly has some warmth on the back end, but impresses me as a fairly traditional/classical Bordeaux due to its refreshing acidity and some rusticity. Nice complexity and moderate length. Very good, typical and interesting, but not impressive, 17/20.

  • 2000 Château La Fleur de Boüard 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Lalande de Pomerol

    Full, ripe and masculine bouquet leaving a slight modernistic (dare I say international...?) impression, which is certainly not overdone. Classy and individual. Very powerful and concentrated. On the palate I get beautiful notes of dark chocolade, dark cherries, blackbarries and licorice. Great balance and long finish. Tasty, voluptuous glass of wine. Quite young and lively. 18/20

  • 2000 Reignac 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Bordeaux Supérieur

    Bricking. Modest but interesting, classically styled bouquet of barnyard, tobacco, cedar, raisins and polished shoes. After a sip there's also lavender, spice box and dusty library notes. This is a distinguished, elegant wine. Not very profound, but utterly digestible. Good. Drink now. 16.5/20

  • 2001 Château Reynon 89 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Entre-Deux-Mers, Premières Côtes de Bordeaux

    Cool, stand-off nose of fresh kitchen herbs, cherry and cassis, cocoa, cinnamon and cloves. Aeration gives this wine more depth, as it turns a bit more mystic, darker. On the palate there is little (or wel integrated) oak, which keeps it highly drinkable, fresh and fruity. Medium bodied wine in a generous, open and approachable style. Nice. Ready to drink. 17/20

  • 1998 Château Jean de Gue Cuvée Prestige 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Lalande de Pomerol

    Dried herbs, cigars, pine forest and a distant whiff of manure. Traditional in presentation, showing some recalcitrance and ruggedness, it has a strong, red fruit core and seems to have a Merlot dominated mouthfeel. Round, supple, soft earthy tones. Bears resemblance to the first wine in this flight, but this one has more fruit, more fun. Very nice. 17.5/20

  • 2000 Château Faizeau Sélection Vieilles Vignes 86 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Montagne-Saint-Émilion

    Seems kinda closed, but it does show some licquor-like notes, along the lactic yoghurt and pastry impressions. Gingerbread, canned cherries and slightly volatile cardboard nuances. Clearly more modern than the others, very fruity, but alas not very self confident or individual. Could also have been a GSM-blend, IMHO. 15.5/20

  • 2003 Château d'Aiguilhe 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux

    Creamy coconut and vanilla, dried cherries, gingerbread, olive/tomato-spread, big dollops of chocolate, whiskeynotes, iodine. Little bit burned / high on toast, but enough fruit and acidity to counteract that. Tannines are soft and extremely ripe. Good balance and not too heavy. I am not particularly fond of Bdx-03's but this is quite good actually! 17+/20
