Tasted double blind. Very charming floral start with powerful red fruit. Very good mouth feel with slightly hidden red fruit on palate today. Very good potential.

Perhaps an off bottle, but if not this was an 82-83 point wine, that even people who enjoy high octane New World wines didn't particularly enjoy today. Lush, ripe black fruit on nose was the best part, despite clear signs of alcohol. Rough and awkward flavors and structure on palate, very difficult to enjoy.

Tasted double blind. Lots of bright red fruit on nose with modest spice. Flavors of bright red cherry and strawberry with lacy, silky textures with some structuring iron-driven minerality, classically Chambolle-Musigny. Wonderful for its level.

Black fruit on nose starting to show some mature aromas, accompanied by very big baking spice. Big black fruit on palate, also showing good fruit. Moderate length and finish, but no signs of 1997's too common over-ripe character.

Tasted double blind.I believe this was open and decanted for 30-45 minutes, but it wasn't long enough. Started with a bit of sulfur and some reduction, which blew off after 20 minutes. This showed very Vosne styled spice on nose with lots of Asian five spice character, but very dense, backward fruit that wasn't particularly accessible. I remember having this wine shortly after release and enjoying it tremendously, so think this just needs lots more time in the cellar or several hours in a decanter.
Open 30 minutes, then served. Started musty and completely earthy, but more spice aromas came through with 10 minutes in glass. Flavors similarly developed nuance and complexity, showing flavors of cooked mushroom, meaty spice and lingering red fruit. Big power for its age. Started fading about 30-40 minutes after poured, slowly declining in fruit and intensity over the next hour, with acidity becoming more pronounced. My "91" is based on its best 20 minute window, starting 10 minutes after poured.
