  • 2009 Château de Mayragues Gaillac Blanc

    France, Southwest France, Gaillac

    Very light color. Salty nose with almonds and a touch of VA. Honey (almost makes you think this is going to be off dry). Exotic fruit on the palate, nutty finish. Ok.

  • 2009 Domaine Castera Jurançon Sec

    France, Southwest France, Jurançon Sec

    A blend of 95% of Gros Manseng with 5% of PM. Only stainless steel tanks.
    Very strong nose, almost agressive with dusty moldy old lemon, smoke and fresh cut grass. A touch of mint appears with time. Very good acidity, not as round as the Clos Lapeyre. Very lemony on the palate with an interesting bitterness.
    A little simple but enjoyable for sure.

  • 2005 Herri Mina Irouléguy Blanc

    France, Southwest France, Pays Basque, Irouléguy

    A blend of 55% GM, 40% Petit Courbu and 5% PM.
    Golden, darkest color of the 1st flight. Salty, honeyed and nutty nose. Dried apricot. More apple on the palate with again that strong nutty component, almost like an oxidative note. Round and rather fat, it could use a little more acidity. Still a nice wine, again better with the right food.

  • 2006 Clos Lapeyre Jurançon Sec Vitatge Vielh de Lapeyre

    France, Southwest France, Jurançon Sec

    A blend of 50% PM, 40% GM and 10% Courbu. Fermented in barrel.

    The nose was similar to the Herri Mina Irouleguy. Aromatic with honey, spices, almond and nuts. Mango and dried fruits as well. Similar palate with a touch of oak. A little more lemon. Full, balanced with a good acidity, round, similar to the '05 with that fine oxidative touch. With time, beautiful honey notes emerge with a touch of ginger bread. Good wine. Needs food. Will age very well.

  • 2010 Domaine des Cassagnoles Gros Manseng Côtes de Gascogne

    France, Southwest France, Gascony, Côtes de Gascogne

    Weygandt's cuvee, blend of Colombard (mainly), Ugni Blanc (20-30%) and gros manseng (20-25%).
    Impression of residual sugar, cassis leaf, candied lemon. Ripe, round, candied grapefruit. Feels like I'm drinking a bad over ripe sauv blanc. This wine to me is wrong. Right off the bat, it gave me the impression of a manipulated wine with some very specific yeasts used to give the taste and profile the domain desired. On top of that, that sweetness is just not right either.
    Not for me.

  • 2007 Château Bellevue La Forêt Fronton

    France, Southwest France, Fronton

    Nice nose with a velvety feeling, violet, cassis and blackberry A touch of bell pepper (which disappear with more air), chocolate and plum. Integrated tannins, more red plum on the palate, a touch of raspberry. Rustic but pretty at the same time. Overall a nice wine, offering a basket of fruit, soft, doesn't have the greatest structure but really enjoyable. This is rustic but pretty at the same time.
    A blend of 75% Negrette with Cab sauv and merlot.

  • 2010 Nicolas Carmarans Aveyron L'altre

    France, Southwest France, Aveyron

    Sense of natural wine right from the nose. Barnyard. Get more focused with more air. Chili pepper flakes, violet with a nice mix of red (cherry) and dark (blackberry) fruits. Rather smooth tannnins with a lively citrusy acidity, supple.
    Really got better with air. 100% Fer Servadou.

  • 2011 Domaine du Cros (Philippe Teulier) Marcillac Lo Sang del Païs Rouge

    France, Southwest France, Marcillac

    Peppery nose with geranium notes and dusty cocoa. Tannic palate with a touch of iron and chocolate, raspberry and cassis. Seems to have darker fruits than the 2010 with a better structure.
    I really enjoyed this Marcillac.
