My first visit to the fascinating historic old cellars at Bouchard Pere et Fils.

  Red cherry aromas and flavors with a slightly sweet, slightly ripe start, then a bit more lean and less ripe on finish with some interesting nuance.

  Red and black cherry with big floral support to start. Good structure in middle, some sweet hints on finish. South facing vineyard. Most likely a good value if it ends up coming to the US.

  Black cherry with good spice hints. Impressive minerality, structure and balance with interesting acid-driven textures. Well done.

  Red cherry, sweet spice aromas. Same red cherry flavors with good acidity. Very approachable now. Simple finish.

  Red cherry aromas with charming fresh herb support. Larger scaled red and black cherry on palate. Very good and interesting for its level.

• 2008 Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune 1er Cru Grèves Vigne de L'Enfant Jesus

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

  Red cherry on nose and palate. Very attractive floral support. Palate gets lots of support from good acidity and minerality, good tannins as well. Lots of tension and energy, long silky finish. Very good for its level.

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

  Floral and red cherry on nose with some delicate spice support. Red cherry, strawberry flavors with tarragon and rosemary. Tight and lean from middle to finish. Needs plenty of time in cellar.

• 2008 Bouchard Père et Fils Corton-Le Corton

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

  Black cherry aromas with a dense, brooding character. Meaty, dense black fruit flavors. Compact through middle, lots of power on finish with very assertive tannins. Lots of potential but this will most likely benefit from 20 years in the cellar.

• 2008 Bouchard Père et Fils Chambertin-Clos de Bèze

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru

  Red and black cherry on nose with lots of fresh herbs and some alluring sweet spice. Very elegant, this is classically "2008" with lots of energy and textures. More black fruit on palate with a very big, very impressive finish. I'm very glad to have some in my cellar.

  Floral start. Big sweet fruit with plenty of baby fat. Good+ for its 1er Cru level.

  Orchard fruit on nose and palate with good acid providing energy from middle to moderate finish. Good for its level.

  Peach aromas and flavors with some new oak hints, mostly on nose. Palate starts with fat fruit, then ends with good minerality support on moderately long finish. Good for its level.

• 2008 Bouchard Père et Fils Corton-Charlemagne Domaine 95 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

  Exciting floral start with mint, nutmeg and white pepper supporting great aromas of peach and ripe apple. Palate is simultaneously lush and balanced with great uplifting acidity from middle towards long finish. A truly sensational Corton-Charlemagne is a vintage with many producers also made top notch wine in this commune. I brought this bottle from the tasting to our lunch and it kept getting better.

  Good ripe apple on nose and palate with some modest spice on nose. Has more acid than fruit from middle to finish. Good for its level.

• 2010 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses

  France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

  Starts with apple and pear aromas, plenty of spice, then some lemon coming through near end. Palate has plenty of big fruit, both orchard and citrus. Lots of power on finish. Cellar for at least a few years, when I 'd really expect this to perform like a rock star.
