Deep yellow. Peach, lemon and subtle petrol. Rich yet bone dry, fantastic acidity and minerality, great length. Quintessential dry Alsatian Riesling. Incredible retention of freshness despite the development of mature notes-how long could this go on? Every bottle of this over the last few years has been amazing. Sadly, this was the last one in my possession.
Medium yellow. Each time I've tasted this I've been more impressed. Viscous texture, bright, almost Vouvray-like citrus and pear, yet excellent earthy core. Whereas I initially thought that this was somewhat soft, it has gained earthiness and shape over time.
Youthful ruby. Secondary/tertiary tones of perfume, black fruit and anise. Very light, lean, high acid wine-in short, a bona fide '88 Burgundy. Very good but could use a bit more flesh and sweetness to ameliorate its austerity.
Full color. Herbal/graphite nose that makes you think more of Loire Cabernet Franc than Pinot. Medium bodied, herbaceous and earthy on the palate. Not enamored of this.

2005 Domaine des Baumard Savennières Clos du Papillon
