• 2004 Weingut Eckehart Gröhl Grüner Silvaner Spätlese trocken 89 Points

  Germany, Rheinhessen

  Bright yellow, green tinge. Yellow stonefruit and banana leap out of the glass. Very pure and enjoyable. On the palate this is solid stuff, strong and full bodied. Taut acidity keeps this from toppling over. Good poise and focus. Well done! Still young, wait one year. 17/20

• 1970 Mommessin Côte de Beaune Villages 85 Points

  Brownish red in colour. Some alcohol in the nose, which also showes coffee, forest floor, decaying leaves and milkchocolate. On the palate this is agreeable, which was a positive surprise for such an old wine of mediocre pedigree (with all due respect...). Charming impressions of old barrels, tiny red currants, blood and fresh meat. Slightly aggressive acidity in the aftertaste, but hey, I'm not complaining. 15/20

  Plum and blackberries. Angular and rustic, slightly drying in the finish. Liked the pretty coffee and creamy chocolate notes. Could have been better a couple of years ago. Now it's average and in decline. 14.5/20

  Good old-fashioned nose of school paint and Indian ink. On the palate this is more lush and modern, with sweet red fruit, a seductive, sultry mouthfeel, integrated tannines and acidity. Alas, there is some greenness in the aftertaste. A pleasant surprise and an excellent ringer, though. 15.5/20

  Loved the wonderful nose on this wine. Tannines are a tad green and rough but at the moment there is sufficient black fruit to cover that up. Still vivacious, even youthful. But don't wait, drink now, cuz the tannines will stick out in a few years time. Good effort. 16/20

  I did not read one single positive TN. And it's true. It's very poor. This is all about green peppers, very astringent and mean. Unripe. There's so much acid, it hurts. Some faint red berries couldn't save it. 12/20

  Although this comes in an evolved, tertiairy, traditional package, there's a lot to discover in this wine: cherries, berries, slightly animal-like. Pleasantly light and delicate, wonderfully resolved tannines. Very good. 16.5/20. My fellow tasters were a lot less positive, and thought it was lean and unassuming.

  WOTN in our BDX93 tasting. Young, lively, dark red. Black cherries, cassis, loads of roasted coffee and charcoal. Some distant sweetness. A wonderful wine at its peak. 17,5/20

• 1993 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron 88 Points

  France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

  Caramel, milk chocolate, bell pepper, green olive, slightly astringent finish, which has a lot of acidity and tannines left. Drink sooner rather than later. This is a very commendable effort from Pichon Baron, but it does carry the hallmarks of the vintage. 16.5/20

  Very austere and tannic. Fruit is still fresh and bright but very vulnerable. Don't think that it will outlive the sinewy structure. Due to its fierce acidity, this felt somewhat unbalanced and disjointed. 14.5/20

  Clearly different from all the other wines in the tasting. Is this Bordeaux? Heavily perfumed, exotic fruits and flowers. Sweet on the nose and in the entry. Somehow I thought the aromatics to be a tad artificial and candy-like (children's chewing gum). All in all it was quite nice. But different. I'm not a believer. Yet. 16/20
