Introduction

I brought the wines, everybody else tasted double blind.

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2008 Zlatan Otok Zlatan Plavac Barrique Sveta Nedjelja 88 Points

    Croatia, Dalmatia, Srednja i južna Dalmacija, Hvar

    Decanted for an hour. Ops, this was a bit too young to be opened now! Very fruit forward and brutish, with lots of dried fig, crunchy lingonberry, barnyard, vanilla, moccha and more. The palate was also very fruit forward, very full on, with lots of tannins and some vanillary oak. I should have left this to sleep for another 4-5 years! Very good in any case.

  • 2004 Tommasi Ripasso Valpolicella 89 Points

    Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Ripasso della Valpolicella Classico Superiore

    Decanted for an hour. This needed some airtime to really open up. It was a rather elegant wine, with fresh red fruits and some herbal thing going on, quite full bodied on the palate with lots of acidity, but tannins well integrated. I think this is at its peak now, a very nice wine with enough punch to go with a good meal.
