SAS flight CPH -> NAR

Introduction

Was not expecting much from SAS because of previous experiences. But... They've lifted the wines in Business Class.

Flight 1 - 3 course dinner (5 Notes)

Started out with small smoked salmon surprise followed by fois gras. For the main course I went with chicken. Dessert was an overly sweet tarte chocolate *blaurgh*

  • 2005 Henriot Champagne Brut Millésimé 92 Points

    France, Champagne

    Non-blind. Inflight.
    Intense color and great bubbles.
    Intense nose to bring out anticipation.
    Intense taste. Woah! Full bodied, creamy mouth feel leaving a clear and fresh palate, aching for more.
    What can I say, this woke me up and I became rather curious as to what more SAS might serve...

  • 2002 Château Romer du Hayot 87 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

    Non-blind. Inflight.
    Beautiful golden wine with excessive Botrytis notes on the nose.
    Taste is balanced with applaudable acids. However finishing short with an unnecessarily bitter tang. Non-complex.
    Without the exuberant nose, the score would be in the lower 80'ies.
    With fois gras.

  • 2009 Yalumba Shiraz The Y Series 92 Points

    Non-blind. Inflight.
    Inviting, complex, peppery Shiraz nose. Long, balanced wine with good acids and tannin. It has that wonderful Oz-style Shiraz pepper-jam-lump of sunshine in just the right way. Very attractive wine!
    They say wine changes dramatically to the worse on board an aircraft. However, reading what others have written, it seems that this wine was enhanced by altitude and maybe shouldn't be served on the ground :-)
