This was one of the better bottles of Grande Cuvée with some bottle-age to it. It had a lovely nose, with notes of mushroom, earth and cream, along with typical scents of apples and lemons lined with some mineral and little nutty accents. Really nice. The palate was slightly less developed, still seeming very young, really fresh, almost zippy, but it was certainly less primary than newly disgorged bottles, with a velvety depth to its bright flavours of lemons and green apples wrapped in a fine mousse. As always, this was very classy, with a lovely sense of poise and balance as the wine moved into a long finish lined with a touch more mineral. Excellent.
This was really good - better even than the last bottle we had I thought. There was a bit of sulphur on the nose even after the bottle was opened for half an hour and the wine sat in the glass for several minutes more. However, there was clearly a nice bouquet beneath that, with lemons and limes matched by ripe peach notes, a nice line of mineral and some pretty floral accents. Very nice. The palate was really yummy as well. Rather sweeter and more powerful than one would expect from a Kabinett, it neverthless had beautiful freshness to its bright flavours of fleshy lemons and grapefruit lined with more mineral and floral nuances. What really made the wine stand-out for me was a wonderful, lively energy and a beautiful sense of definition and focus that underscored the whole package. While the last bottle was all intellectual interest, this was wed to a burgeoning deliciousness on this one. Beautiful stuff, and apt to improve in the next few years as well.
I thought this was a very decent, easy drinking wine. The nose was a nice mix of the modern and traditional, with bits of earth and spice, smoke and minerally scents alongside some ripe aromas of dried berries and dark cherries. The palate was slighly simpler, with a touch of rich fruit - berries and cherries again - and a touch of earth and toast at the background. Nothing reall complex or even very interesting, but it was pretty well made and nicely balanced, with a certain liveliness and a nice amount of juicy acidity that lifted the wine into a lengthy finish. Very decent.
