  • 2009 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Porrets St. Georges 93 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru

    Medium dark color, clean inviting nose suggesting red fruit with a slight earthiness. Great palate with long lingering red fruit mixed with strawberry finish with nice acidity. I’m surprised how approachable this wine is now, and can only hope to taste it again in the future. My tasting neighbor suggested a tiny amount of anise on the finish, and wow, then I got a hint as well. A fabulous wine. From a QPR perspective, my WOTN !

  • 2009 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers 94 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

    Medium dark color. Clean enticing nose with suggestion of earthiness/mushrooms.Beautiful red berry fruit on nose; brighter than the previous wine. More tannic and chalky. This wine is not as approachable at this age as the previous one. Great potential for cellaring further

  • 2009 Thibault Liger-Belair Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Saint Georges 94 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru

    Slightly darker color suggesting a bigger richer wine thus far, yet it seems smoother and more balanced. Definite earthy nose with hints of sulfer initially. This one craves further aging more than previous two; but suggests a bigger return. Tied for my WOTN 94/95?

  • 2009 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Charmes-Chambertin 94 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru

    Medium dark color, big nose of wood and earth with a suggestion of alcohol. A lovely wine with smoother tannins than I’d expect for a big young wine, rendering it very approachable now. Red fruit on the palate, muted with hints of plums and blueberry. Wow, what a nose. Tied for my WOTN. 94/95?

  • 2009 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Bousse d'Or 93 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

    More modest nose than previous wine, with an earthiness and perhaps a hint of eucalyptus or something similar (maybe someone popped a cough drop on an adjoining table). Pleasant soft mid palate yet the tannins do require more ageing. Some suggestion of a chalkiness in the body. A beautiful wine 03/94

  • 2009 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru Clos des 60 Ouvrées 92 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

    Medium dark color. Modest nose with vegetal hints. Very tart red fruit. Less well balanced at this time than it’s neighboring Clos de la Bousse

  • 2009 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Corton-Bressandes 93 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

    Med dark color, clean nose of oak and mixed red and blue fruit (maybe strawberry and blueberry). A medium bodied, complex palate with a tart finish. Needs more time to develop. Comparatively very good QPR for this group

  • 2009 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Corton-Renardes 90 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

    A clean earthy nose with modest amount of oak. Still harsh young tannins. There is complexity, yet not integrated at this time

  • 2009 Thibault Liger-Belair Clos Vougeot 94 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

    Medium dark color. Nose is a mixyure of earthiness, some sulfer, and a bit of funk (ggod funk). The wine is the most developed and smoothest on the palate of the this last flight of three reds. Yet, I feel this one could develop the most with more cellaring. Wonderful wine 94/95?
