100% Tempranillo , mix of new and old oak barrels of different sizes and style.

• 2009 Psi Ribera del Duero 86 Points

  Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero

  Dark purple in colour. Full one red fruit nose. Sweet lush core running through this wine. Ripe. Relatively fruit fwd. A bit of dry tannin on the finish, short and would definitely benefit from 1-2 years in bottle. 13.5% Alc. 85-87

• 2008 Psi Ribera del Duero 88 Points

  Red vibrant in colour. Mild on the nose. Meaty , smoky notes. Savoury and evolved wine especially vs the 2009. Good balance but it has some green notes to it. We preferred it to the 09. Drink now 87/88

~75% Termpranillo the rest is CabSauv, Merlot and Malbec.

• 2005 Hacienda Monasterio Ribera del Duero Reserva 92 Points

  Light on the nose, light floral notes. Fleshy , ripe, concentration and sweet core ( most likely this is a result of lots of extraction ) . Lots of length. Big on the alcohol too at 14.5%. Still all in all a very nice wine with an elegance . Quite a bit of life ahead. 92 drinks nicely at the moment but with life ahead.

• 2003 Hacienda Monasterio Ribera del Duero Reserva 90 Points

  Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero

  Dark red with brownish rim. Lots of ripeness here, roast meat, animal notes on the nose. Smoky. Oaky notes too. Definitely the heat of the vintage is evident. High Extraction style and oak. 14% alc. 90-91.

• 2004 Dominio Pingus Ribera del Duero Flor de Pingus 93 Points

  100% Termpranillo. Dark red in colour. Floral nose, minty notes. Lush wine, long with lots of fruit ( again high on the extraction) . Good weight on the palate. Not as expressive/complex as last time we tried it although that could well be our palate evolving away from the style. Still a very good wine and one we would enjoy. 92 Andreas / 94 Nicol so 93. Lots of life ahead of it too.

• 2003 Dominio Pingus Ribera del Duero Flor de Pingus 90 Points

  The heat of the vintage is present. The sweetness of fruit, the oaky notes, on the notes give it away. On the palate it felt a bit short and with an overbalanced sweetness to it. Again this is a wine of the extraction type so we expected it to underperform in such a hot vintage. Andreas 89 / Nicol 91 so 90. We suggest one drinks this sooner than later.

• 1996 Dominio Pingus Ribera del Duero Flor de Pingus 91 Points

  Licorice notes, definitely the wine has evolved and has a Bordeaux feel to it, maybe it’s the cab franc aromatics. Feels like it has seen better days but its far from over with good fruit and we enjoyed it more than the 2003. Andreas 90 / Nicol 93 so 91+. Drink up.

• 2006 Dominio Pingus Ribera del Duero Amelia 90 Points

  One barrel (300btls) made of this year as suggested by Peter Sissek’s US importer and shipped exclusively to the US. ( Amelia is the daughter of the US importer we believe). Made in a much different way than the Pingus with more emphasis on extraction and oak. In a way of the big extracted Cali Cabernets.
  Tight, young, over ripe with a dense sweet core from start to finish. A bit too “try hard” wine. Of course 100% new oak and it very visible on nose and palate. It has a vanilla creaminess feel to it. Made for a specific audience and definitely not for us! Not sure on how this will evolve . 14% Alc. 90 from us.

• 1998 Dominio Pingus Ribera del Duero 93 Points

  Oh the nose on this wine!
  Pingus has nothing to do with his other wines. This is a wine that speaks of itself and its terroir. No over-extraction here, the oak is fully assimilated (they used 200% new oak we believe ie new barrels every time they racked) and it feels very natural and pure.
  Very balanced with finesse . A beautiful wine and imagive this is among the lower rated of the Pingus. Still though not worth the money ~£500. 93-94 and drink from now.

  Again much like the 1998 (Pingus has nothing to do with his other wines. This is a wine that speaks of itself and its terroir. No over-extraction here, the oak is fully assimilated (they used 200% new oak we believe ie new barrels every time they racked) and it feels very natural and pure)
  
  More evolved than the 1998 and with a clear vintage distinction. Nicely balanced, elegant . Some meaty notes, smoky. Fresh and with more on the palate that then 1998 but a lot less happening on the nose. 92-93 and drinks nicely now. Unfortunately to us it is not worth the price of ~£500

The difference between Pingus and the rest is as old school left bank and new age Pomerol.
Good news is that in General Peter Sisseck is moving away from new oak.

Wine most likely people to buy if they were paying: Monasterio 2005 by a long way
Wine most likely to buy if money was no issue : Flor de Pingus 2004 followed by Pingus 1998
