Introduction
Our good friend Dimitri Bazas from Maison Champy had one more night in Chicago so a few of us got together for dinner and a few bottles of Burgundy.

Floral start with ripe tropical fruit aromas and some stone fruit as well. Lush, ripe and powerful fruit on palate, with a long and energetic finish that starts showing clean and more linear citrus fruit.

2005 Château de Puligny-Montrachet Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières 90 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Aromas start with powerful orchard fruit with some hints of ripe peach in the background. Fairly powerful flavors that are also firm and somewhat austere on finish. Not quite the minerality I expect from Meursault Perrieres.

2002 Etienne Sauzet Montrachet 95 Points

Concentrated stone fruit aromas with well integrated new oak and elegant spice. Ripe stone and orchard fruit on palate, also showing great elegance and finesse, picking p energy on long, persistent finish that seems to expand. Very impressive now.

Far better than another bottle from same source a few months ago. Perfumed aromas to start with rich spice. Not much fruit but wonderful earthy aromas. Not much left on the palate, nothing wrong, just short and simple.

1996 Louis Jadot Charmes-Chambertin 87 Points

Black cherry on nose and palate with modest spice. While too many 1996s suffer from dominating acidity and tannins. this was more fairly balanced and accessible, just also fairly simple.

1999 Nicolas Potel Romanée St. Vivant 82 Points

Started musty and never really improved from there. Certainly out of balance and a bit dirty. Our guest vigneron thought it showed signs of volatile acidity on the palate.

Black cherry, boysenberry aromas. same big fruit on palate with far less spice than i'd expect from a Romanée St. Vivant, but certainly very balanced and easy to enjoy. i have 3 or 4 bottles in my cellar, and don't think I should try them for at least another 5 years to see if more personality develops.

2007 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Echezeaux Les Rouges du Bas 90 Points

Lean and accessible red cherry aromas and flavors. Good density, modest spice, simple structure but a very easy Grand Cru to enjoy young.
