• 2009 Trevor Jones Chardonnay Virgin 76 Points

  Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

  Not my preferred style. A little malolactic fermentation, but not enough. Too much acid, and slightly bitter.

• 2009 Chateau Ste. Michelle & Dr. Loosen Riesling Eroica 87 Points

  USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

  Excellent, as expected. Off-dry, with fresh, light body. Classic riesling flavours, but not so much fruit. Instead, more minerality and chemical flavours.

• NV Kestrel Lady In Red 3rd Edition 85 Points

  USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Yakima Valley

  Quite pleasant. Not a lot of complexity, but nonetheless pleasant. Lightly fruity, with just enough oak to strengthen it, but without being overwhelming. Light on the acid. Medium tannins, but very smooth. A strong table wine.

• 2009 Teutonic Wine Company Pinot Noir Alsea Vineyard 88 Points

  USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

  Not at all like other Pinot Noirs. Extremely clear, with deep red color. Light and fruity, with a little acid. Very little oak or other heavy flavours. Pomegranate. Excellent, if a bit outside expectations.

• 2010 Michael-David Vineyards Zinfandel 7 Deadly Zins 92 Points

  USA, California, Central Valley, Lodi

  Dark & purplish, with a strong fruity aromas, well developed. Off dry, medium bodied, smooth tannins. Big fruit, with a hint of spice. Stewed cherries & plums. Just what I like in a big red wine.

• 2007 Chateau Ste. Michelle Mourvèdre Limited Release 87 Points

  USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

  Dark garnet, slightly cloudy. Moderate aroma, with cocoa & coffee, and a slight whiff of turpentine. Dry, heavy, and smooth, with a lot of hard tannins. Intense flavour - overwhelmed some guests

A strong set of wines, I thought - several were on the more expensive side, and so maybe not something I'd buy for every day drinking, but excellent nonetheless.

Based on prices, I'd strongly recommend:
7 Deadly Zins ($18), the Lady in Red ($12), and the Sinister Hand wines ($20).

If on sale, I'd grab
Eroica ($18), Nefarious Malbec ($25)

Awesome but more than I want to spend
Teutonic Pinot Noir ($50ish), Chateau St Michelle Mourvedre ($30ish)
